For decades, twins have fascinated people. Twins are unique, and many people often want to know what being a twin is like. At this moment in time, even Hollywood is fascinated with twins. From reality TV game shows like Twin Love to films like Twinless, which stars Dylan O’Brien and James Sweeney, the curiosity only seems to grow—so much that another film about twins is coming.
According to Deadline, Director and writer Warner Herzog is set to release a film titled Bucking Fastard. Yes, that is the title, and we can’t wait to find out what it means. The film is said to be about fictional sisters but is based on the true story of inseparable twin sisters, Joan and Jean, who live on the fringes of society. HUH and HUH? Because this writer happens to be an identical twin, I devour anything that has to do with twins. This whole description threw me into a loop, so naturally, I looked for more information on Jean and Joan.
An article from joblo.com stated that Bucking Fastard is believed to be based on the lives of twin sisters Freda and Greta Chaplin, whom Herzog spoke about in his book Every Man for Himself and God Against All: A Memoir. He was fascinated by the sisters, so this may very well be the case. Just reading a small portion of what he had to say about them makes me even more curious about their life, particularly their obsession with a neighbor who ended up taking them to court because it was so bad. Before this casting announcement, I had never heard of these two. And now I am intrigued. But I’m even more excited about who has been cast to play them.
MORE: If you’ve never seen the Mara sisters’ work, you should check out ‘A Teacher,’ which stars Kate, and ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,’ which stars Rooney.
Starring in the film together are real-life sisters Kate and Rooney Mara. This will be the first time that the two will work together on a project. I’m a fan of Rooney Maras’s work, and I enjoy Kate’s performances as well. I’ve always wanted to see them work together, so I can’t wait to see what they do with these characters. And I’m not familiar with Herzog’s work, so I am interested in how he will tell the story. Bucking Fastard will be produced by Ariel Leon Isacovitch and Agnes Chu, along with Andrea Bucko and Emanuele Moretti of Cobalt Sky Motion Picture Group. Production is set to begin this spring in Ireland and Slovenia.
