Well, here we are with my jaw on the ground which is normal with The Way Home There are so many things that the show does well and one of those is to keep you on your toes. The Way Home Season 3, Episode 8 ‘Smoke On Water’ did just that… kept me on my toes.
It’s kind of strange how fast things can and do change, but also what you find all weaves together. Because you see the past is always changing due to the amount of people that travel there. Life isn’t that simple in the world of Port Haven. Life isn’t that simple with a pond.
But there is so much that the pond is hiding. So many things that I wonder who else has gone through the pond. Who can travel through time is probably one of the biggest mysteries.
Yet its secrets are life-changing. It feels like it’s got all these arms and ways of reaching out to everyone in regards to the truth or lack of it that is pulling them to the pond.
Alice and Kat have a lot to go through, but now so does Jacob and Del. Del knowing that all three of them can go through time, leads to one big question – what did Colton know? There are so many things that I don’t know that we’re going to get answered in two episodes.
But I am hoping we get something. Either way, I am here for it all until the wheels fall off.

WHERE IS KAT
Seeing Casey jump into the pond startled Alice. Everything is pointing towards her being Casey’s Mama and that has to be a weird thing to see. I think that is when Alice has got to wish that the pond never found her.
Jacob has figured out that young Colton was the person who came to 1814 and told him what to plant.
Both Alice and Jacob run to Elliott’s to see if Kat is there and to tell her what is happening. But Kat isn’t there. She is back in 1816, on a beach with Thomas. I love Thomas, so I am 100% great with her with Thomas. He’s not denying that he wants to be with Kat and not denying that he sticks around because of her.
Kat is also aware of the fact that she is running from everything all the time. She tells herself that she needs to go back to 2025.
And she does just that.
When she gets home in The Way Home Season 3, Episode 8, Alice is there to talk. Kat does want to tell her things but with Del coming home and not wanting to talk about things. Del just needs space.
I feel for all of the Landry women, but Del especially. I would wonder what part of my life wasn’t a lie if I had to do life the way she’s had to, with all the lies coming to the surface.

DEL AND HER BROKEN HEART
The truth has done nothing but hurt Del. She was owed it. This is true. But learning it feels like betrayal this time. Why? Because what did Colton know? Did he know that Jacob could have fallen in that pond? Did he go into the pond to try and find him?
Could Colton travel? Lately, it has felt that Colton had told them more lies than truth. But I can also see where Del is coming from – why the pain is so deep. You see she about fell apart when Jacob disappeared and if Colton had known this part, why didn’t he tell her?
Colton and his secrets seem to be the worst thing about him. If he knows about the pond – what has he known about Alice? Kat? But mostly about Jacob. For Del, nothing could break her more than the possibility that he watched her fall apart and never told her the truth.
There is this hard part of life that comes when we realize that people aren’t who we expected. For Del, everything has changed after The Way Home Season 3, Episode 8 and she only has Kat and Alice to try and figure it all out for her now.
Well Jacob too, but she won’t put that burden on him just yet.

NO TO NOAH AND THEN THERE IS MAX
Kat has returned and she did tell Elliott the truth – that she kissed Thomas. She said that she had gone back to 1816 and kissed Thomas. Elliott couldn’t just take it as it was and kept asking if she would have told him had he not told her about Emma.
I hate when people ask that kind of thing. How is one person to know? You don’t and if you have to ask then that is the biggest problem. You have no trust and trying to shame is not the way to go. Elliott and Kat are both at fault, but the reality is neither one of them wants to take any responsibility.
And hey, there have been mistakes all the way around, but that’s life. It’s the way that life works for everyone. If these two were meant to be together, they wouldn’t be fighting so hard to stay together and dancing around the truth all the time. I am not saying that there wasn’t a time that they may have been perfect for each other, but I am saying that with Kat and Elliott, it just feels comfortable.
Kat isn’t one for comfort. But she told Elliott that she just wanted to tell him the truth.
Alice is also ending her relationship. Noah has been trying to get a hold of her and she’s ignoring him. She doesn’t see the point when everything points towards Casey being her daughter with Max. So does that mean that she and Max are going to be together? I don’t know, but I am not against it. I love an enemies-to-lovers trope.
Kat and Alice can’t sleep because of all the drama and aren’t ready to face the day. Well at least in this period. What I would love to have as a parent is a way to skirt your responsibilities – go time travel.
But hey, when 1816 and 1974 are calling – who are we to not heed the call?

SUSANNAH
When Kat makes it back, it has been three months. Thomas is right there to tell Kat he doesn’t understand the ponds timeline, because none of us do. Port Haven is in disarray – as the winter has been long and people are mad at Cyrus for it. Thomas tries to get Kat to stay away, but she doesn’t care about that.
Elijah has been trying to share his crops with the town, but they won’t take it. They are mad at the Goodwins and have been protesting at the gates. Thomas may get Kat into the house, but that also means that Cyrus knows she is there.
And Cyrus sends for them both in The Way Home Season 3, Episode 8.
I love the love that Susannah and Kat have for each other. It’s evident and it’s there. Hell, when Cyrus even had to recognize it – I clapped. I clapped and said thank you for these two. Susannah and Kat would take a bullet for each other and that makes Cyrus mad. He hates that no one will love him that way.
He’s decided that because he can’t get what he wants, that means that the deal with Susannah is off. Of course, he makes this choice as the mob enters his grounds. He manages to weave a message that blames Elijah and the Landry family. He doesn’t care, because Cyrus only cares about himself.

THE DEMO
Alice is a lucky one. She gets to spend a lot of time with Colton. He has to know who she is – at least I think so. I am realizing none of us really know Colton and honestly, I am beginning to doubt that he is dead. I really don’t even know what to think about him anymore.
He asks her to help him with a song and this kind of excites me. Now, we know that the song is going to be the demo – because it has to be. Otherwise, why have we been talking about it for so long? As the two started to write, I couldn’t help but smile. I couldn’t help but smile because I knew that it was going to be a great song and one that would affect them all.
When they do get to record the demo in The Way Home Season 3, Episode 8, it feels right. Alice needed the moments with Colton, even though it would make Evelyn mad. TBH, I didn’t care about Evelyn’s feelings because she was so mean to Colton about Del being gone. The remarks that she could never marry a farmer were just wrong.
Yes, it may have given Colton some focus for his music, but I still think that Evelyn was in the wrong for the things she said. Colton loves Del. He’s always going to love Del. Evelyn needs to respect that.
And I am not saying she will, but she should. She just needs to act like less of a victim and realize that not everything is going to go her way.

DON’T SAY THAT
Jacob really doesn’t understand Kat but he also hasn’t been trying. He’s doing everything that he can to avoid his sister, but also knows that it’s easiest to be mad at her.
Elliott has to tell Jacob that his sister is trying and everything isn’t easy for her. It’s complicated.
I feel like Jacob has to realize that everyone has a lot, but that Kat has been carrying the load of the family and she needs him right now. It’s his turn to bring her home.
When you go to the pond, Del is the last person that anyone expects to see there. But she is there. Everyone can understand why it is though, that Del is there. She blames the pond for what it has taken from her. I guess that’s why when Jacob jumps in the pond she looks distressed. How much time has the pond taken from her?
It’s why when Nick is in the woods and makes himself known, I am not mad. I needed that for Del. I needed someone to be there for her. Weirdly enough I was glad it was him.

THE FIRE
Kat, Thomas, and Susannah head to Elijah’s to try to get him to leave. The town is on their way and they can’t let anything happen to him. Elijah thinks he can reason with them, but that is definitely the last thing that they are. His optimism is powerful. I wish I had it.
Cyrus has got everyone so angry and is firing everyone up. The town is crazed and all I can think is why is it that they are listening so much to a man that they know is a liar. I guess that they were just looking for something to believe in, but I wish that they were looking elsewhere.
The town decides to set fire to the Landry’s home. It’s only when Cyrus believes that Susannah is in there, does he tries to get them to stop and he enters the burning home. Kat will go in and that means Thomas will too. We all know that Cyrus is due to survive, but it’s whose hand he survives by that is the shocker.
It’s because of Elijah and Colton that anyone in that house is surviving. Colton could travel and he was there that night. He was there to make sure everyone survived (I believe, the show didn’t say that) and also to make sure that it was going to be okay. Grandma Fern was so right about the pond, but Colton didn’t let anyone know that. Instead, he made us all second-guess who he was and what he knew.
Colton blamed himself for what happened that night and took off running. Jacob and Kat still caught the sight of him and knew who it was.
I think we’ve all known for a long time that Colton could travel, but I think that we didn’t know the extent of what was happening or what he would change for them all. Colton has some explaining to do.
But the kicker for me – with the confusion of time and how it works – is when Colton jumped back in the pond – it was the day that Alice caught him coming out of the pond right after Rick passed.
Everything has come full circle. Well on one point – because I don’t really feel like anything does in the show. But that’s okay. It just leaves me with one question…
Colton Landry, what are you hiding?

OTHER THOUGHTS
- Alice going to the truck and Noah being gone, but Max being there and kind to her, I loved that
- Max waiting for Alice at her house to study, I loved that
- Hell, when did I start to like Max?
- Jacob and Elliott – I like that they have each other
- Nick having the bracelet he once gave Alice to give to her again. I loved them together and though I know they can’t be anymore, I wish they could
- Cyrus is trash
- I love that Susannah and Kat – they’re just perfect
- Colton telling Jacob what to plant – I loved that and I love that Jacob listened
- Kat saying she’s too young to be a grandma.. hahaha
- EVELYN – what were you doing in the pond. Playing whomever – I know that I should care, but I don’t. The drama Evelyn, we don’t need.
- Yes, I can understand Evelyn’s drama because love as a teenager is a lot and very dramatic.
The Way Home airs on Fridays on Hallmark.
How about Alice confronting Evelyn for her “channeling the Lady of Chalot”. Evelyn is young and in love with the idea of love. I found it interesting how two of the Goodwins have an obsessive notion of love (Cyrus with Susanna and Evelyn with Colton). I would love for Alice to point out that women who become too enamored with the idea of fairy tale love become Miss Havisham.
