When a preview for a show says that all your questions will be answered, we don’t want to call them out, but we know they’ll never answer all of our questions. We also know that we won’t always believe the answers that they give us. When it comes to The Way Home season finale, we don’t believe all of the answers we got. We don’t believe that anything is that simple and we know that what may be true, may not be true, yet.
This third season of The Way Home, Hallmark has managed to tie up storylines, while also setting up a new season. The answers that we have, well they only pose new questions.
The Way Home, Season 3 finale was unlike any season finale that I have ever seen. I watch a lot of television, and I have to admit that I have watched this season finale more than I should.
But I am okay with that. I am okay with the complexity of emotions that The Way Home brings. It’s a show that gives the viewer the chance to face their fears. As a viewer, I have come face to face with the meanings of relationships, the compromising of personal grief, and the reality of memories. Nothing in The Way Home is easy, except loving all of these characters (even the ones that we don’t like).
With season 3 coming to an end and having to wait until 2026 for more, I will definitely be rewatching the series – a lot. The show means that much to me.

2023
When an episode starts right at the beginning – the moment that this whole journey started – you know you’re on a journey. The Way Home has been a journey for us all, but for the characters of The Way Home, it’s been harder. As we’re on the outside looking in at the story, we can pick up on clues.
But the clues will never be enough, because certain things haven’t happened yet and you can’t ask questions. As a viewer, we are all lucky to stand on the outside and see through different points of view.
Seeing Alice and Colton through new eyes – Coltons – touches my heart. I know that it’s definitely different because we know so much about Colton now. Well, that and we know nothing at all.
There is something about Alice that sparks memories in Colton. He sees her and the pieces start to fall together. At the dinner that night, when Alice says that it is just her and her Mom – Colton remembers Alice of 1974 saying the same thing. When Alice starts singing during cleanup – Colton remembers the Alice who sang in 1974.
Alice has made Colton think and it’s important that he remembers the things that happened so that he can move forward.
He asks Kat about Alice, hoping for any clue about who she is. But, Kat doesn’t know anything about Alice, except that they would have had a great summer together. You can see the look in his eyes – that for him it’s important to put together the pieces.
And maybe the biggest clue is when Kat starts reading one of the Alice in Wonderland books, and Colton asks her how many times she can reread it. Kat remarks that it’s kinda crazy that Alice’s name is Alice.
Trust is stranger than fiction, Colton. You have got that right. The thing is – what is it about the truth that you can figure out when you are a time traveler?

JACOB, ALICE, & KAT GET FRESH AIR
Del and Sam must have made up and I wonder if I slept through it. I love them but the last time they were together didn’t seem too kind to each other. But here at the kitchen table is Sam, ready to offer advice to them about Jacob.
Lewis wants to press charges of attempted arson. It doesn’t matter that Jacob didn’t do anything – the intention was there.
Jacob knows that he’s made a mess of things, and wants to run away from his problems. He leaves – to fix his own problems, but doesn’t really realize that he’s going to have trouble getting there. No one can really help Jacob or understand him, because of his story. Time travel had kept him away, but no one would understand that.
Jacob is stuck and it’s one of those things that he needs to pull himself through.
Alice and Kat running into Elliott at the pond, where he’s there to show support to the both of them, makes me soften to him. He tells her to say hi to their teenage selves. Elliott doesn’t even try to talk to Kat, because he knows right now it’s Jacob that needs her.
But at home, he is there for Jake. He shows Jacob the clock he found on the wall. He notices that on the bottom of the clock, it says, “time passed and time future and in between is the still point of now. find me there.”
That message is what Jacob needs to see. He needs to get to the point of being in the still point of now.

YOU ARE WHO I THINK YOU ARE
I can’t figure out what the point of M-A-S-H is unless it’s for Alice, Elliott, and Kat to declare their bestieness. If that’s the point, it is okay. But then again, maybe the point is to get Alice back to 1999 so that she can have a conversation with Colton.
Alice has always been able to make it to the pond and never get caught. Pushed in, yes. But caught, no. That is until now.
Colton comes out as she’s about to jump and tells her that she is who he thinks she is. I have to admit, I am grateful that he catches her. I am excited that he finally seems like he’s able to catch onto things instead of standing on the outside looking in and not seeing what is there.
Alice didn’t tell him who she was, and she didn’t think that he recognized her. He has so many questions and you can see that he’s excited that she’s there. There is this want in Colton to understand and have answers, especially because he knows that the pond brings people where they need to be.
So, why is Alice there? Well, according to her, it’s for this conversation. It doesn’t matter what the questions are that Colton wants to ask, she can’t give him answers. She can’t answer questions, because a lot of things haven’t happened yet. Colton has changed Alice’s life in so many ways – ways he doesn’t even know yet. Those visits to 1974 meant something to her. They continue to mean something to her.

HE WOULD ALWAYS CHOOSE YOU
I really, really love that Kat and Alice can talk to Del about all of the time traveling. She deserves to know what has happened. After all, all of the secrets that have been kept from her have made her struggle. She thinks that Colton lied to her and maybe it was resentment.
But, it was never about not telling Del or lying to her. It was certainly never about resentment. Colton loved Del more than anything. She was everything to him and it didn’t matter to him – the singing. All that mattered was the love that he felt.
When Kat and Alice are able to find Colton’s original demo, Del gets to hear how much Colton loved her. She gets to hear how he wouldn’t give up on her – she was his everything.
Del hearing it, she wants to go and see him. She wants to be a part of his world and understand how much he loved her – again.
Seeing Alice, Kat, and Del ready to jump – I burst out in tears. Seeing them like this felt like they all got each other – for the first time. They were in this together. I was distraught when Alice and Del lost each other’s hands and that meant not going to the same place, but it was needed.

I LOVE YOU, GRANDPA
Of course, it was Evelyn that made Colton think about the pond. Everything is past due at the Landry farm and she’s sent him a check. She doesn’t want him to go without. There is something about the Landry pride though – it makes him not take it.
But it is going to Lingermore and seeing Kat’s portrait that makes him realize where Jacob is. Jacob had to have fallen into the pond.
This leads him to running to the pond and running into Alice. She’s coming out of the pond and he’s right there with his sweater to wrap Alice in asking her if Jacob fell into the pond.
There is something so heartbreakingly beautiful about the scenes with Colton and Alice. He’s so heartbroken over Jacob and is desperate to find his son. Alice can give answers, but those answers will destroy Colton more. He’s not going to be around when Jacob returns.
I would be like Alice, thinking that if I just told him everything there was a chance that everything would change. She wants her Grandpa to be happy. He just wants her to know that she’s so loved. All of the roads that they have been on have led to this. They’ve led to her.
And well, that’s Colton. He’s just wanting to love his family. He tells her if he can’t know her in her time, at least he got to know her in his. He needs her to jump though, and to go home.
I don’t know about you all, but I didn’t expect him to jump next. There was a beauty though in it – being able to see Jacob one more time and telling him that he loved him no matter what happened and what will happen.

WHO IS CASEY
I don’t believe that Alice is not Casey’s Mama. I said what I said. It doesn’t matter what anyone says to me – I don’t believe otherwise.
While promos said that all of our questions would be answered, I call BS. Because we still don’t know who Casey is. We do know that she got the Landry’s land back because she blackmailed Lewis.
You see, Susannah’s will left Lingermore to the Landry’s in her will. Cyrus’ sons changed her will to keep it in the family, but Casey had found the original will. She is back because she knows that the will is needed to get Jacob out of trouble. Only, she didn’t know it was Jacob that needed it.
But he was caught red-handed and the will can help him. The thing is though, Jacob is told about the letters coming to Del and he doesn’t like not knowing. He doesn’t want his Mom threatened.
Casey runs into Alice on her way out and Alice blurts out she knows she’s her Mom. Casey looks confused, but that doesn’t mean that I believe her. She doesn’t want to say who she is or if she’s a Landry. She has to be.
The only other thing that I can think of is she’s Susannah’s and the pond can bring you forward in time. But I don’t buy that one.
I am really going to need to know who Casey is in season four.

EVERYONE IS HOME
The road that everyone is on – it is a lot to fathom. Del and Kat returning, I am pretty sure that they didn’t think that they’d find out Lingermore belongs to the Landry’s. I am also positive that Kat didn’t know that she’d realize that the reason that Colton got in that truck was because of her. He wanted to see his daughter, after spending all of that time with Alice.
He wanted Kat to know he loved her.
There is nothing like a father’s love for his daughter. Colton had such a deep love for his kids, but also a lot of regret. He made his mistakes but his kids were never that. They were his life.
I love just how much Colton shows his vulnerability and wants his kids to know they are loved – no matter what. Knowing that he’s spent time with Kat, seeing him remember all the moments, and wanting to set their hearts on the right path, I admire.
Colton Landry has always been filled with a lot of love and for that I am appreciative we get to see him. I am appreciative we get to know him.

ELLIOTT IS…
These last two episodes have made me have to do something I didn’t want to do. These last two episodes have made me like Elliott. This one especially. The last scenes with him mostly.
Elliott admits that he’s put Kat on this pedestal that she can’t live up to. It’s so refreshing that he sees what is so annoying about the way he treats her. She’s not perfect and when it comes to Elliott, I feel like that’s exactly what we’re supposed to believe. That she is perfect.
But Kat also admits that she’s taking Elliott for granted. She just assumes that he’s going to always be there because he’s always been there.
Kat and Elliott have both taken each other for granted, all the while driving me insane. The two haven’t communicated and that – to me – has made me not want to see them together. Maybe I am softening to them both.
But then again, maybe the reason I am softening to Elliott is because we find out that his Mom left him something when she left. She left a letter and well, she jumped. That’s right. She time-traveled.
And that baby in the basket we met at the beginning? Well, that’s Elliott.
Ya, I am shocked too.

OTHER THOUGHTS
- Young Elliott saying that Alice is someone he won’t forget – that’s so cute
- Max visiting with Alice at work… why do I ship these two so hard? I want them together. Noah, we don’t ship him and Alice. We bring me
- Of course, neither Max nor Alice hated the kiss. Who would?
- Jacob apologizing to Danny… why do I think Danny knows more than he said
- Wait why does Danny have a typewriter? Is he sending the letters to Del?
- Vic sending the Augustine ring back was not something I saw coming
- Jacob saying he should be like Vic was something I didn’t think would come either
- I did not expect that the person that pushed Alice into the pond was indeed… Alice.
- Del watching her wedding and it is just like she remembers it – I love that win for her.
- Grandma Fern and her riddles are killing me
- Colton watching his family together and it being like he remembers it – I loved that in for him!
- Alice not willing to give up on her dreams of music IS EVERYTHING
- Wait why is Sam at the pond? How does he know it’s gonna be okay?
- I have a feeling that Danny is the one who is sending the letters to Del
- Alice having met Elliott’s mom in 1974… wow. I shoulda known that girl would be important.
- How could Del never told Elliott that he was left in a basket? On their doorstep.
- Also who brought Elliott to the doorstep?
My $$ are on Casey being Kat & Elliot’s daughter, Alice’s half sister
I rewatched and something slipped under the radar at Colton and Del’s wedding. Colton tells Jasper he expects his brother to be a no-show but not Evelyn. He then shows Jasper the postcard Evie sent him from Paris. The comment about Colton’s brother doesn’t sound like his brother is dead. I am leaning more into the theory that Sam is Colton’s brother.
