Tonight we have to find a plan other than watching NCIS or its prequel, NCIS: Origins. Unfortunately for us, there will be no new episodes of either series airing tonight. This absence is not a coincidence, but rather a response to a several factors that have affected the production and scheduling of the two shows.
Production Delays Due to Los Angeles Fires
One of the main reasons there are no new episodes this week is the interruption in production due to the fires that affected Los Angeles earlier this year. These devastating wildfires forced authorities to suspend numerous shoots.
Necessary safety restrictions imposed by the Los Angeles Fire Department made the producers of NCIS and NCIS: Origins postpone filming. These series rely on filming on location or in studios located in affected areas and near the main focus of the fires. This complicated the production schedule and had a domino effect on the airing of new episodes.

Scheduled Breaks in Broadcasting
Beyond the fires, American television networks often schedule strategic breaks in the broadcast of their series. These interruptions are usually related to special events, holidays, or simply to better align programming with peak viewing times.
In December 2024, NCIS and NCIS: Origins aired episodes until December 16 before going on a six-week hiatus. Both series subsequently returned on January 27, 2025, but only for a brief period, as the last episode of NCIS: Origins aired on February 10 before a new hiatus. As for NCIS, it aired its last episode on March 3.
These types of breaks are not unusual. In previous seasons, NCIS has had similar breaks, especially in the winter months. This allows CBS to strategically distribute episodes and keep audiences interested for longer.

When NCIS and NCIS: Origins Are Coming Back?
We can rest easy knowing that NCIS: Origins is scheduled to return with new episodes on Monday, March 24, 2025. NCIS will also return with new episodes on the same day. When they come back, the prequel will air Season 1 Episode 14 while NCIS will air Season 22 Episode 15.
In the meantime, CBS usually fills in these gaps with reruns of previous episodes. So we can console ourselves by reliving our favorite episodes while we wait for new ones to return!
