In the epic fifth and final season, Joe Goldberg returns to New York to enjoy his happily ever after in YOU. But his perfect life is threatened by the ghosts of his past and his own dark desires. There’s also the biggest enemy of all, himself. Because if there’s anything we know about Joe and what we saw in the official trailer for YOU season 5, it’s that Joe loves love. And this new woman, played by Madeline Brewer, is going to prime him to jump from Kate to this new love interest.
The official trailer, and images, also clue us into the kind of life that Joe is living. Somehow he got his kid back and he’s also living the rich life. And it’s clear that it’s been a couple years since the events of season 4 because that kid looks to be about 10 years old or so. Also, we’re going to be seeing more of Kate’s life and how she’s dealing with that on top of Joe. Because Kate’s smart. So when I see her crying in the photo below in combination with her talking to Joe about killing someone.
There are also clues in this trailer that social media is going to play a role in taking Joe down. At the 1:03 mark there’s a newspaper shot that has Joe’s photo with the caption “Joe Goldmurder: Humanitarian or Homicidal Maniac.” Right after there seems to be a TikTok live with a voice over that says, “If anyone knows anything about Joe Goldberg. We want to know.” Also, if you pause, you see comments that say “We all saw what we saw right?” and “Ted Bundy vibes!!!” and “He looks so slammy omg he totally did it.”
For the viewer ready to watch YOU season 5, we want to know what he did now. Because Joe has a history of painting himself as the knight in shining armor. And this TikTok live is one of the first of many cracks that someone has figured him out. Finally.
