Two months ahead of its theatrical release, the live-action Lilo & Stitch trailer has officially debuted! It’s the latest in Disney’s live-action remake line, and we have to admit: it looks pretty dang cute.
The Lilo & Stitch trailer opens with Stitch’s great escape and eventual landing on Earth. Or, specifically, on the the Hawaiian island of Kauai. That’s where he meets Lilo (Maia Kealoha), a sweet but outcast girl wishing (on a star, naturally) for a best friend. Little does she know that a fuzzy blue alien will be everything she’s wished for and then some!
Their goofy hijinks take up a good portion of the Lilo & Stitch trailer, as Stitch causes chaos and Lilo gleefully goes along for the ride. Of course, anyone who’s been waiting for the live-action Lilo & Stitch knows there’s more to this than a buddy comedy. There are beings out there who want to recapture Stitch, and we get a few glimpses of them, too. We also get our first look at the other human characters, including Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani, Kaipo Dudoit as David, and Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles.
There are plenty of references to the original in the Lilo & Stitch trailer. And don’t worry — the most iconic line is in there. “Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten,” Lilo says.
Additional cast members for the live-action Lilo & Stitch include Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, and Hannah Waddingham. Joining them are original voice actors Chris Sanders (voicing Stitch again), Tia Carrere, Amy Hill, and Jason Scott Lee.
Lilo & Stitch arrives in theaters on May 23. Watch the official live-action Lilo & Stitch trailer below, and let us know in the comments: how excited are you for this remake?
