It’s a great time to be a Formula 1 fan!
On the heels of Formula 1: Drive to Survive Season 7 and anticipating the 2025 season, Apple Original Films has unveiled a trailer for the upcoming movie, F1. The teaser for the project, starring Brad Pitt & Damson Idris and directed by Joseph Kosinski, was released eight months ago. Last June, Apple Original Films announced that F1 would be released on June 27, 2025.
Now, it’s official. F1 will debut in theaters and IMAX nationwide on Friday, June 27, 2025, and internationally beginning Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

The F1 trailer introduces the world to Pitt’s Sonny Hayes, “the greatest that never was.” Javier Bardem stars as Ruben Cervantes, Sonny’s former teammate and current owner of a struggling Formula 1 team. Ruben reveals even more about the character over a series of shots that further establish Sonny. “Some people look at Sonny Hayes, they see a guy who lives in a van, a gambling junkie who missed his shot, the best that never was, but I see possibility,” Ruben says.
The new footage shows Sonny alongside the classic Camel Lotus Honda. It also teases the accident on the track that nearly ended his career as the sport’s “most promising phenom of the 1990s.” Now a racer-for-hire post a Daytona win, Ruben reaches out to Sonny “to come back to Formula 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world,” per the movie’s synopsis. “I’m offering you an open seat in Formula 1. The only place where you can say, if you win, you are the absolute best in the world,” Ruben tells Sonny in the trailer.
Upon returning, Sonny must drive alongside Damson Idris’s Joshua Pearce, “the team’s hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace.” They have to grapple with teammates being their fiercest competition as well as constructive criticism so they can win. It’s hard to know for sure, but the F1 trailer suggests Sonny (and Joshua) will come up against real-life drivers from the sport.

In addition to Pitt, Idris, and Bardem, F1 stars Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Simone Ashley. The film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Kosinski, famed Formula 1 driver Sir Lewis Hamilton, Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Chad Oman.
The movie’s trailer notably features Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.” That song has become the signature theme of Formula 1 racing in the UK.
BBC started using the iconic song for races’ opening titles in 1978. The tradition moved with the sport to Channel 4 in 2016. It’s also worth noting that F1 will release in theaters days before the Austrian Grand Prix 2025. The Formula 1 2025 season kicks off with the Australian Grand Prix 2025, from Friday, March 14, to Sunday, March 16, 2025.
