We’re back! The Rookie Season 7 Episode 14 ‘Mad About Murder’ is good, but it’s different from what we expected. That said, Chenford charts the path for their future while Celina’s past resurfaces unexpectedly. Ready?
Here we go!
The Game of Expectations

We have mixed feelings about The Rookie Season 7 Episode 14 ‘Mad About Murder.’ While it’s a good episode, we expected something else. And when something completely different from what you imagine happens, it usually leads to disappointment. And that’s exactly what happened in this one. Overall, the episode is very good, but we expected something different.
The promo hinted that this episode was going to be much more Chenford-focused and that Malvado was going to be a potential problem for Bailey and Nolan. And none of that happened. Malvado was nothing more than a side note in the episode. And there are barely two scenes with Chenford. So this episode is one that, if we’d watched without any expectations, we might have loved, whereas now it has left us a little cold. But that’s the game of expectations.

Hugs That Heal in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 14 ‘Mad About Murder’

While The Rookie Season 7 Episode 14 ‘Mad About Murder’ wasn’t everything we expected, we did like having some Chenford goodies. Tim doesn’t know exactly where they stand. They’re not back together, Lucy hasn’t forgiven him yet, he’s not ready; they’re not ready. But still, they haven’t let each other go; they can’t. Lucy is now going to train to be a sergeant, and while it’s not the main goal, the fact that it paves the way for them to get back together is there, even if neither of them wants to address it just yet.
So now they’re just waiting. Existing day by day without expectations, without thinking, just going with the flow. And it’s the best thing they can do. They both need time… and they’re giving it to each other. Of course, Angela is absolutely right when she tells Tim that Lucy is the best thing that ever happened to him and that if he’s ever lucky enough to get back with her, he shouldn’t let her go. Angela has known Tim forever and has never seen him so happy, so complete, as when he and Lucy were together. If he ever gets her back, he can’t forget what she means to him. And we can’t add anything else. Angela said it all.
That last Chenford hug we see in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 14 ‘Mad About Murder’ gives us life! Tim was so worried about Lucy and needed to hold her. He needed to hold her in his arms and know she was okay, not just physically but emotionally as well. Taking someone’s life is no small feat, even if she’s a criminal, and Lucy had no other choice.
But what we love most about all this is the way Lucy throws herself into Tim’s arms, knowing that’s the only place she’ll ever feel safe and secure. The only place where she can feel like everything is okay. Because Tim is her safe place. And the way she confides in Tim everything she feels about this case, pouring it all out to him… They’re like a married couple, we swear!

The Past Always Comes Back

Celina takes things into her own hands in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 14 ‘Mad About Murder.’ Personally, I love listening to true-crime podcasts. However, this episode makes us think about how much of it is information and how much is morbid, as well as how it affects the families. We guess we don’t think about this in older cases, given that everyone involved is gone. But what about cases closer to our time?
It’s good to reflect on this. It’s a good thing we clarify what lies behind every story and every tragedy. The truth is, it’s difficult to draw the line between reporting on an event and a morbid treatment of that same event that could offend the victims. We assume the difference lies in the focus. A focus on information and facts or a focus on gruesome details and theories that fuel them solely to use a tragedy as entertainment.
It’s up to us to choose what kind of podcasts we listen to.
