For the 2025 Met Gala, Halle Berry seemed to be having the time of her life.
Firstly, there is her blue carpet look. She wore a stunning LaQuan Smith dress that followed in line with the theme of the night aka “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” It featured sheer cutouts that ran the length of her body. She topped it off with a silky black jacket and a small pinned hat with a mini veil draped over the top of her face. And you could tell she was feeling herself.
Posting to her Instagram she said, “LaQuan crafted a piece that felt like a poem — whispers of old New York, the shimmer of broken city lights, the unapologetic grace of Black Dandyism, and the boldness of claiming space in today’s fashion narrative. To wear this gown was to feel powerful, purposeful, and proud. Thank you, LaQuan, for creating something so breathtaking — and for allowing me to bring it to life.”
The dress that took over 1400 hours to make did receive some backlash online. People were calling it “crass” and said it was risque for such a night. To that many people pushed back noting that taking risks in fashion doesn’t have an age limit. And then there were the ones noting that Lorde was on the blue carpet with a simple band across her chest held up by bra tape and Jenna Ortega was wearing a sheer dress made out of measuring tape pieces. No one said anything about them being crass. So saying something about Barry is ageism at its finest.
Thankfully Berry didn’t see or hear those comments as she continued her night in an unexpected manner.
Like any good gathering, the 2025 Met Gala also had multiple after parties. One of those afterparties was the Raising Cane’s after party, which saw the likes of Hailey Bieber and Colin Kaepernick attending. But it’s Halle Berry herself that had us go, “Wait is this what celebrities do after the biggest night in fashion?” Yes, yes it is. And we want to go.
Berry got into the spirit of the night by literally relaxing on the counter of a Raising Cane’s in Harlem. When we mean relaxing, I mean her lounging across the counter like a Renaissance painting. And if anything, we’re jealous. She just had the night of her life attending a Met Gala after years and in a dress that had everyone talking. And then she’s just casually laying across the counter while enjoying some food. Iconic.
And of course she’s still working. A girl has to feed herself of course. But it’s something different when Berry herself comes up with the idea of laying across the counter while working and enjoying herself a little bit of Raising Cane’s. That’s someone who is having a fun time and isn’t afraid to show it.
