Here we go!
Different Worldviews

We were prepared to go after anyone who would dare to scam a sweet old lady like Mrs. Harper—seriously, anyone who scams old ladies deserves a special place in hell—just like Nyla and Angela. No one messes with their moms and lives to tell the tale! However, this scam brings a willing old mother-daughter match to Harper’s doorstep in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 17 ‘Mutiny and the Bounty.’
Nyla’s mother sees the best in people. And she’s never stopped doing so, even though she’s been taken advantage of for it. So, she raised Nyla to do the same. However, the blows of life and her profession quickly led Nyla to change her mindset. Nyla sees the darkness in people first, before their light. And she’s angry and frustrated with her mother because she only insists on seeing the light. This, in the end, is damaging her, and Nyla only wishes her mother were a little more distrustful and more cautious.
However, what Nyla doesn’t realize at the beginning of The Rookie Season 7 Episode 17 ‘Mutiny and the Bounty’ is that they have two perfectly valid ways of seeing the world. It takes a very special person to continue seeing the light in people despite having experienced their darkest side. And it also takes a special person to witness the full extent of the world’s darkness and still fight every day to change it. These two wonderful women are incredible, each in their own way, and we’re glad they were able to realize that.
Besides, what would light be without darkness? People who only see the light, like Harper’s mother, need people like Nyla to keep the darkness from chasing them. And people like Nyla need people like her mother by their side to give them perspective. Together, that’s how they work best.

Crossroads in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 17 ‘Mutiny and the Bounty’

We never liked this prosecutor and didn’t want him to run for office, but we have to admit that The Rookie Season 7 Episode 17 ‘Mutiny and the Bounty’ was very cruel to him. The episode put him at an impossible crossroads. If he dropped the case, not only would he have failed his principles, but, as Wesley told him, it would only be the beginning. The blackmail would continue forever and get worse. But, on the other hand, if he allowed that video to come to light, he would destroy his son’s life because the world would never let him forget what he was.
It’s selfish to even worry about the election in this situation, but it’s impossible not to think about it. After all, it’s a life’s work and a dream the prosecutor was on the verge of achieving. Ultimately, he does the right thing, avoids blackmail, and prioritizes his son, just as he should. He protects him with everything he has, even his life… and his career. We were truly scared when we saw the blood pouring from that young man’s neck; he had too much life ahead of him, and it seemed like an extremely cruel ending. Fortunately, everything turned out for the best it could have.
And if The Rookie Season 7 Episode 17 ‘Mutiny and the Bounty’ showed us anything, it’s that this prosecutor isn’t the person we thought he would be. The way we’d seen him so far, he seemed more like a villain than anything else. The typical hard-nosed man who cares more about numbers than delivering justice and who doesn’t understand nuances is willing to sentence someone harshly to set an example. But this episode showed us more. It showed us his heart, his vulnerability.
The decision he faced wasn’t easy. Not only did it mean putting his son on the line, but it also meant giving up everything he’d spent years building and dreaming about. He could have made a lot of bad decisions. In the end, it all came down to what he was going to put first: his career or his son. The man we thought he was…well, frankly, he would have chosen the first option. But he surprised us by choosing the latter, and that speaks to the man he truly is, something we hadn’t seen before.

The Turning Point

In the previous episode, Chenford made it clear that Lucy’s sergeant exam result would be decisive for what would come next for them. And The Rookie Season 7 Episode 17 ‘Mutiny and the Bounty,’ lives up to that by involving Tim in everything related to this exam. It’s Tim who tells Lucy that the exam results will be delayed. And it’s also Tim who’s there when Lucy goes to look at them.
We’re still fascinated by the way Tim supports and believes in Lucy. But we’re more interested in that final glance and what those rather incompatible shifts might mean for them. They look at each other as if they’re ready to take that final step. The exam results are in, now they need to decide what’s next for them.
If the finale of The Rookie Season 7 Episode 17 ‘Mutiny and the Bounty’ shows anything, it’s that Chenford needs to have a conversation about where they stand right now and where they want to go in the future. And we really hope we see this conversation on our screens. There’s already been too much about Chenford’s rebuilding relationship that’s been left out of our screens—the progression from breakup to reconciliation was inconsistent, to say the least—and we’re praying this isn’t one of those things.
That said, even though they’ll be working at the same station, their shifts are going to be somewhat incompatible. Where Tim will be on the day shift, Lucy will be on the night shift. That means they’re done working together, and they’ll have to make an effort to coordinate their schedules if they want to build something solid. But no worries here, we’re sure they will.

Other Stuff in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 17 ‘Mutiny and the Bounty’

- We knew our girl would make it!
- “Typical Einstein, you’d not only pass, you’d be at the top of the class.” OK, DEAD.
- Tim checks Lucy’s results because she’s too nervous. They’re like a married couple!
- Part of us expected it, but we wish the previous episode hadn’t introduced so much hype about Chenford getting their definition “in a week” when it would actually be in two. We said what we said.
- Randy has more money than sense, we swear.
- And he’s still just as intense.
- Although I’d love to get my hands on one of those wonderful, extravagant—and inappropriate—gifts. Please and thank you.
- Randy as Chastity’s sugar daddy? With Pete being fine with it? It was clear it couldn’t work out.
- Randy really knows how to kick ass.
- And Chastity knows how to save herself!
- They’d definitely make an interesting couple.
- Mama Harper and Mama Lopez are the duo we didn’t know we needed! Queens!
- Mama Lopez sure knows how to pull off a covert mission!
- Celina is good at many things… but composing isn’t one of them. The gift is super nice, though.
- We always like it when Celina and her boyfriend speak Spanish.
- Honestly, we think we would have punched that lawyer.
