If there is one show that we are looking forward to this June, it would be We Were Liars. Not only because we loved the book, but because the adaptation comes from Julie Plec and Carina Mackenzie. You know that when it comes to those two, the television will be solid.
Plec and MacKenzis get the angst, intrigue, and romance that comes with any story. They have built careers knowing what sells, what works, and how to reach their audience.
So their most recent work together – We Were Liars is going to be must watch for us. And with all 8 episodes of the Prime Video series dropping at one on June 18th, you know that we will be seated and watching.
Just like we were seated watching this teaser trailer.
“Once upon a time, there was a mythical land where it was always summer,” the voiceover starts.
Emily Alyn Lind, who you may recognize from the reboot of Gossip Girl is the voice we hear and she’d s definitely reminding us of the beauty of summer, until we remember that summer can be not so beautiful after all. It can be filled with chaos.
We’ll most likely be hearing Lind do voiceovers for the series, as she plays the main character, Cadence Sinclair. Now if you haven’t read the book – don’t think that this is going to be like The Summer I Turned Pretty. We Were Liars is dark. It will keep you on your toes.
The series, We Were Liars, which is inspired by E. Lockhart’s novel of the same name, comes from Julie Plec, Carina Adly MacKenzie, Universal Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie reuniting for a show? Yes, you had our attention with that. Casting Mamie Gummer, Caitlin FitzGerald, and Candice King? We were already hooked (also because we’re read the novel).
The official logline for the series is, “We Were Liars follows Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her tight-knit inner circle, nicknamed the Liars, during their summer escapades on her grandfather’s New England private island. The Sinclairs are American royalty—known for their good looks, old money, and enviable bond—but after a mysterious accident changes Cadence’s life forever, everyone, including her beloved Liars, seems to have something to hide.”
“Something terrible happened last summer,” Lind’s voice closes says as the trailer ends, “And no one will tell me what. When you’re left for dead, you want answers.”
Such a great teaser! We can’t wait for this series! We just know it’s going to be good.
