Netflix’s Nonnas feels like a warm hug on a cold afternoon. It’s also likely to make you as hungry as you’ve ever been while watching a movie. And it’s all based on a true story! Fangirlish had a chance to sit down with director Stephen Chbosky and screenwriter Liz Maccie to discuss the healing power of food and how it transcends cultures, and having these wonderful women prove that you’re never too old to pursue your dreams.
The movie stars Vince Vaughn, Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire, Brenda Vaccaro, Joe Manganiello, Drea de Matteo, Campbell Scott, Michael Rispoli, with Linda Cardellini and Susan Sarandon. It follows Joe, a man who, after the death of his mother, decides to honor her by opening an Italian restaurant. Only he’s not really a chef. Or has any idea of what he’s doing. All he knows is that he wants to recreate that nostalgic feeling of eating at home-cooked meals.
Does it work? We think it really, really does.
