After nearly 30 years, Adam Sandler returns as Happy Gilmore in Netflix’s Happy Gilmore 2. The original comedy, released in 1996, followed Happy as he discovered a talent for golf after being less than successful as a hockey player. He used his newly found skills – and a trick shot – to enter the Tour Championship golf tournament, using the prize money to save his grandmother’s house. Happy Gilmore also starred Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, Frances Bay, Carl Weathers, Allen Covert, and Ben Stiller. Sandler and plenty of the original stars – and new ones – are back in the sequel.
The trailer teases what to expect, but Netflix has yet to release a description. Sandler went on “The Dan Patrick Show” in April 2024 and teased what fans can expect. “We’ve been jammin’ and [writing]. We have a million ideas already, we just got to make it a movie and make sure we’re excited about people enjoying it. We love Happy Gilmore. We don’t want to let anybody down,” Sandler shared.

When Will Happy Gilmore 2 Be Released?
Netflix announced Happy Gilmore 2 in May 2024. By August 2024, Sandler confirmed the news on Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast. Sandler joked that Happy Gilmore 2’s existence was inspired by Sandler’s wish to “hang out” with Travis Kelce. On that same podcast, Sandler revealed that Travis Kelce would have a role in the film. Sandler shared an Instagram post in September 2024 that teased Happy Gilmore 2’s production, but there was still no news on a release date.
On Christmas Day 2024, Netflix shared the first teaser of the movie that featured Sandler’s return to Happy and the golf course. By February 2025, the streamer shared another look at the movie. The behind-the-scenes clip revealed that golf stars, including Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Will Zalatoris, would make appearances in the sequel. However, there was still no movement on a release date at Netflix.
Finally, in March 2025, Netflix revealed that the movie will premiere on Friday, July 25. Happy Gilmore co-writer Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler penned the script, which Kyle Newacheck directed. Sandler, Herlihy, and Happy Gilmore producers Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds produced Happy Gilmore 2. Judit Maull, Kevin Grady, Happy Gilmore director Dennis Dugan, Barry Bernardi, David Bausch, and Dan Bulla served as executive producers.

Who Stars in the Happy Gilmore Sequel?
In September 2024, Netflix revealed on X that Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald would reprise their original roles as Virginia Venit and Shooter McGavin, respectively. Later that month, Bowen confirmed that Virginia and Happy are still “very much together.” By November 2024, Variety reported that Ben Stiller would also star in the sequel as his Happy Gilmore character Hal L.
Sandler revealed on “The Dan Patrick Show” in December 2024 that rapper Eminem would have a “funny as hell” cameo. In January 2025, Netflix shared that Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio – Bad Bunny – would portray Happy’s caddie.
In March 2025, McDonald shared that the movie will honor Carl Weathers, who portrayed Chubbs Peterson in the 1996 film and passed away in February 2024 at the age of 76. McDonald told Us Weekly that the sequel sends Weathers and other late costars “love in the movie. I can’t talk about it, but you’ll see how we talk about them in the movie.”
As of March 2025, Netflix has confirmed that Happy Gilmore 2 stars Sandler, Bowen, McDonald, Stiller, Benito Antonia Martínez Ocasio, John Daly, Sandler’s daughters Sadie and Sunny Sandler, Conor Sherry, Ethan Cutkosky, Philip Fine Schneider, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Travis Kelce, Blake Clark, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, and Paige Spiranic.
