“We were safer in space.” is the ominous tagline of FX’s new entry into the Alien universe, Alien: Earth. And with the official trailer dropping yesterday (June 5), one of the biggest questions that fans of the franchise have is: Where does Alien: Earth fall in the Alien timeline.
The first Alien movie dropped in 1979. And additions to the story have continued to just last year with Alien: Romulus. What’s different about new entry in the franchise is that it’s a TV show. Starring Wendy, played by Sydney Chanler, it tells the story of a synth who explores the crash site of the mysterious deep space research vessel USCSS Maginot in Prodigy City on Earth.
While exploring the vessel with a “ragtag group of tactical soldiers” they discover that the ships crew have been brutally killed by an unknown alien creature. They also discover that this ship has brought back with it creatures from the darkest corners of the universe. And it’s not long before greed enters the picture as corporations want to benefit from these discoveries.
So where does Alien: Earth fall into the timeline? Because we’ve heard teases of Earth throughout the franchise. And Ripley crash landed back on Earth in Alien: Resurrection, decades after Prometheus.
Here’s the timeline for all Alien live action projects so far:
- 2093 – Prometheus
- 2104 – Alien: Covenant
- 2120 – Alien: Earth
- 2122 – Alien
- 2142 – Alien: Romulus
- 2179 – Aliens
- 2179 – Alien 3
- 2381 – Alien: Resurrection
