Leverage: Redemption may have wrapped its third season, but the adrenaline, heart, and signature justice-for-the-underdog energy still linger in the minds of its devoted fans. We had the chance to sit down with executive producer Dean Devlin, who opened up about the show’s evolution, the challenges of keeping things fresh, and why Season 3 just might be the most ambitious installment yet.
A Found Family in Constant Motion

One of the standout elements of Leverage: Redemption—and of the Leverage franchise as a whole—is the found family dynamic between the crew. But as Devlin shared, what makes that family compelling isn’t just their shared history—it’s their individual growth. “These are characters who chose each other as a family,” Devlin explained. “They weren’t born into it, but they made that choice. And over the years, that bond has only grown stronger. But just because the family unit grows tighter doesn’t mean the individuals stop evolving.”
That evolution is central to Leverage: Redemption Season 3. Devlin emphasized that while the love and loyalty among the team remain steadfast, personal growth can sometimes lead to conflict. “They all have their own interests, their own fears, their own worries—and that means, sometimes, they’re pulled in different directions. That’s something we really wanted to explore this season.”
Part of what made this exploration so rich was the collaboration between writers and actors. Before the start of each season, Devlin and his team invite the cast into the writers’ room to discuss their characters’ arcs and insights. “These actors live with their characters 24/7. They know them better than we do,” he said. “Those early conversations help shape the season. It’s one of my favorite parts of the process.”

“Leverage: Redemption Meets the Moment”

While past seasons of Leverage: Redemption had a way of eerily predicting the future (remember when Hardison hacked a plane?), Season 3 took a different approach—tapping directly into the current cultural moment. “This season, we’re not looking ahead—we’re looking at now,” Devlin said. “We’re tackling hot-button issues that are front and center in people’s lives. It’s going to spark conversation.”
And true to form, the crew continues to provide hope through action—taking on powerful forces in the name of justice. “Every week, you’ll see our band of thieves helping the little guy. That’s what makes this show special.”
Devlin didn’t shy away from the truth: Leverage: Redemption Season 3 was a massive challenge to pull off. But the payoff? Worth every bit of it. “We wanted to push the limits this year,” he shared. “We still have a modest budget, but we shot an action sequence in Europe. Our ambitions were big, even if our wallet wasn’t.”
Despite those constraints, Devlin believes Season 3 is the strongest yet. “There are three episodes this year that are completely unlike anything we’ve done before. If you’re a long-time fan, you’ll get everything you love—and something new. If you’ve never seen the show, this is the best version to jump into.”

The One That Got Away

Fans love a good guest star, and Leverage has had some iconic ones. While Leverage: Redemption Season 3 brought back a few beloved faces, there’s still one character Devlin has his eye on for a triumphant return. “I’m dying to bring back Wil Wheaton as Chaos,” he confessed. “I love the actor and the character. Hopefully, if we keep going, we’ll get the chance.”
While nothing’s confirmed yet for a Season 4, Devlin’s answer about the show’s future was peak Devlin—dry humor with a wink to fans. “John Rogers and I agreed—we don’t want to overstay our welcome. So we’ve decided we’ll stop at Season 27,” he joked. “When we get there, we’ll probably call it quits.”
Sounds like there’s still a lot of lot of Leverage: Redemption left to gain. Stay tuned, Grifters—because if there’s one thing we know about this team, it’s that they’re never really done.
