Some series hook you the moment you hear a couple of names. Black Rabbit on Netflix is absolutely one of them. Jason Bateman. Jude Law. A raw family drama set in the heart of New York. And yes, we’re already counting down the days until it premieres!
What is Black Rabbit About?
Created by Zach Baylin and Kate Susman, Black Rabbit is an 8-episode limited series that dives deep into emotional scars, toxic bonds, and a past that refuses to stay buried. With a gritty, textured aesthetic and a dark urban vibe, this drama is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about shows of the season.
At the heart of the story are Jake and Vince Friedken, played by Jude Law and Jason Bateman. Jake is the successful brother. He’s the owner of The Black Rabbit, a high-end New York lounge with ambitions of building a nightlife empire. Vince, on the other hand, is a man haunted by addiction and self-destruction. When Vince unexpectedly shows up back in Jake’s life, old wounds resurface. The two brothers are forced to reckon with a shared past they never truly escaped.
The cast is just as impressive as the leads. Cleopatra Coleman plays Estelle, an ambitious interior designer. Amaka Okafor is Roxie, the trusted head chef at Jake’s restaurant. Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Troy Kotsur, Abbey Lee, Odessa Young, and Robin de Jesús round out the ensemble, creating a layered, dynamic world inside and around the lounge.
On the creative side, Jason Bateman not only stars but also directs the first two episodes, setting the tone with his signature emotional precision. Ozark alum Laura Linney directs episodes 3 and 4, while Ben Semanoff and Justin Kurzel complete the directing lineup.
Everything about Black Rabbit points to a deeply emotional, high-stakes family thriller. Think Ozark meets Succession meets The Bear. Like a rich mix of loyalty, betrayal, ambition, and the complicated bonds that tie families together… or rip them apart.
