Get ready for another sports comedy! This time, though, it’s set in the world of cheerleading and will air on NBC. Stumble, the new single-cam comedy, has been ordered to series at the network. Little is known about Stumble beyond its logline: “A mockumentary about the ridiculously high stakes competitive world of junior college cheer.”
NBC shared a first-look photo of Jenn Lyon’s role as Courtney Potter. Lyon, best known for her role on Claws, joined the series in April. Her character’s description reads as follows:
“Tied for the winningest coach in Junior College Cheer history, Courteney has a huge fall from grace when a ‘scandalous’ video emerges of her partying with her team, forcing her to take a job coaching at a small crappy school in a town with an unpronounceable name. Can she win the championship with a rag tag team of misfits? She can. She must. She … might not.”

Taran Killam, Jarrett Austin Brown, and Georgie Murphy joined the cast in May. Killam will play Boone E. Potter, Courtney’s husband and high school sweetheart. He’s also the football coach at the school. Brown will star as Dimarcus, “the starting quarterback who leads the team in rushing yards and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.” Meanwhile, Murphy will portray Sally, who “grew up in the foster care system before moving into her car at 18. Not a great cheerleader, but Courteney sees potential in her.”
Stumble also stars Ryan Pinkston as Stevie, “a junior college dropout who re-enrolls to join Courteney’s team as a thirtysomething ‘senior;’” Anissa Borrego as Krystal, “a true ‘cheerlebrity’ and the squad’s star flyer;” Arianna Davis as Madonna, “a narcoleptic tumbler who ironically provides the cheer team with energy;” and Taylor Dunbar as Peaches “a kleptomaniac with sick skills.” Kristin Chenoweth will recur as “assistant cheer coach Tammy Istiny, whose last name is pronounced ‘Isstinny’ (though everyone assumes it’s ‘Is Tiny’).”
The series comes from writers and executive producers Jeff and Liz Astrof and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Dana Honor and Monica Aldama are also executive producers on the show. Jeff Blitz directed and executive produced Stumble’s pilot episode.
The cheerleading mockumentary joins The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, starring Tracy Morgan and Daniel Radcliffe, as first-year comedies on NBC’s 2025/2026 programming slate. When NBC ordered The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins to series in May, Stumble was still in contention. Though their specific timeslots have yet to be revealed, they will air at the same time as returning comedies, Happy’s Place and St. Denis Medical.
