The Chicken Sisters Season 2, Episode 1 is here, and we’re on the fence about what this season will be like and if we’re going to be excited about it. It feels like a lot of the old, and yes, some of the new. But it was the same characters and a lot of chicken.
Like A LOT.
But what can I expect from a show that literally says CHICKEN in the title?
I’ve missed Merinac and the people in the small southern town. I knew that it would be a different experience than the first season, with all of the changes that happened in that season finale. There were a lot of changes in the dynamic of the town and the people in it.
Some of it was things that I expected, but a lot of it wasn’t. It’s been 8 months since Kitchen Clash came into town and set the entire town on its axis.
CHICKEN SISTERS
We know that Kitchen Clash changed everything for the Moore and Hillier families, but I don’t think that I expected what 8 months later would leave us with.
Mae and Jay stayed in Merinac, and he forgave her for her lies. He was still willing to marry her. Amanda and Frank Jr have separate,d and he’s not capable of being an adult. He doesn’t know how to do the simplest of things. Gus and Nancy are living together, and then there’s the whole Nancy might get engaged thing.

These women need each other, and they know it. Life doesn’t make it easy for them, though. You see, they’ve all still got their secrets and things that they don’t want to discuss.
For instance, Mae wants to know who her Daddy is. She’s thinking that it’s Jarvis because of a picture she found with him touching her Mama’s tummy. I guess that when you don’t know who your father is and you’re getting married, you’re looking for any clue that life will give you.
When she speaks to Jarvis, he tells her that he is proud of her, and if he had kids, he’d want them to be like her (basically, I am paraphrasing here) – she takes that as better than a DNA test.
I can understand Mae’s want to find her father, as she’s getting married. Having your father walk you down the aisle is something most girls want to have happen. She’s been trying her entire life to get Gus to tell her who her father is, but Gus just won’t break. So Mae, she’s looking for a clue anywhere she can.
Turns out, though, Jarvis isn’t her Daddy. He’s actually Gus’s second cousin.
BESTIES FOREVER
Frankie is handling her parents’ separation well, as a teenager would. She’s loving being in the house alone and having time for just her. But things do get better when Linzey shows up at her door.
Linzey fled New York because of some BS that her father said to her.
I don’t care how old you get – you’re always gonna need your parents. Your parents are always going to (well, they are supposed to) give unconditional love and guide you forward. So when Linzey’s Dad tells her that he’s getting a second chance to be a good Dad. She felt like that was him saying that he wasn’t her Dad anymore and that she didn’t need him because she was seventeen.
So she did what any teenager would – took her mom’s card and booked a ticket to go back to a small town and talk to the one friend she has that is comforting. That friend is Frankie.
I love seeing friends support each other, and that’s what The Chicken Sisters does – there will be ups and downs, and in the end, women will support women. Linzey needed a friend, and she went to Merinac to find that friend.
It does tell us the kind of person that Frankie is – that Linzey knows where she feels safe and at home. I think that friendship is a beautiful thing.
IT IS PREMIERE DAY
It’s been 8 months since they filmed the finale of Kitchen Clash, and premiere day is finally here. The Chicken Sisters call a meeting to discuss the premiere that night. As the room is talking about all of the things that could go wrong with the premiere.
As everyone starts to talk, Mae cuts them all off and tells them that all of those bad things won’t happen. She knows that there is a possibility, but she’s not willing to really admit those things to them all. Funny thing is, though – Mae can tell that she’s lying.
Seeing Amanda and Mae bond has been a good thing to happen in this series. Sisters should not be at odds, and these two have historically been. But now, they are working through things together, and pushing each other has been a great part of this series.

Mae is pushing Amanda to set boundaries with Frank Jr., and Amanda agrees, too, on one condition. Mae has to stop telling white lies. Even goes as far as to make her a swear jar. It’s a quarter per lie.
I’d just drop a twenty in and call it a day.
IS HE THE DADDY
Mae followed her Mom to the restaurant to help her. At least that’s the lie she says at first. She tries to tell Gus that she’s there because the other restaurant is fully staffed and asks Gus to give her something to do.
Gus suggests marrying the ketchup.
Lord, marrying is a bad word in this situation. Mae gets all dramatic, talking about marriage and making references to what she wants for her own wedding. That would be to know her father and have him walk her down the aisle.
Gus doesn’t want to go back down this road. She doesn’t want to tell Mae anything, and you can tell that whatever she’s hiding hurts her. Revisiting her past really hurts her.
But she doesn’t want to revisit her past. She has a lot of memories, hidden in the restaurant, behind some other boxes. You can see that as Gus goes through it, she is hurting. Whomever is Mae’s father really broke her heart.
Writers seem to have made a choice to make Gus feel more relatable and less scary this season, and that’s a great choice. I think that we need to be able to invest in Gus, and right now it feels as though that may become an option.
I just need to know who she called.
PREMIERE DAY OH NO
Sabrina Skye wanted to get to her daughter, so without hesitation, she flew coach to get to Merinac. Linzey was going to be in trouble, but Sabrina decided that they could stay for the two weeks til Mae’s wedding.
Everyone is gathering for the premiere day. Frank’s place is practically empty, but the douche that talked him into opening a franchise chain was there to tell him some macho whatever.
But The Chicken Sisters’ premiere party is filled. The town is talking, the mayor shows up – it just feels like everyone is there. Though everyone thinks that having the town there is great, it’s about to get really complicated.

Sabrina tells Mae about the secret footage. Mae knows that means that things are about to get really bad. You have to admit, the drama last season was a lot.
When the episode starts to air and all of the things that no one wanted anyone to see start – I had to hide behind my fingers. I hated it for everyone. They didn’t sign up for that kinda mess
For Amanda, her kissing Sergio is on there, as well as Nancy knowing. Frank Jr is mad, Frankie is confused, and Amanda just wants to hide.
Things are about to get even more complicated for Merinac.
