Clayton Briggs was an all-star and everything to Gus when she was younger. The two were deep in love and wanted nothing more than to be together. Yet, it wasn’t allowed, and when the two got caught, his family insisted that he move.
But he’s back on The Chicken Sisters, Season 2, Episode 3. He’s back because Gus called him. Mae has wanted to meet her Daddy. It has been the only thing that she’s wanted, and she’s been waiting for Gus to tell her who it is. Gus would have rather left Clayton in the past, but here she was – stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Clayton’s return was always going to change things for Gus. She feels a little put out by the whole situation, but she wants to do what is best for her daughters.
Gus has changed a lot throughout the seasons, and we can always appreciate growth. Character growth is one of the best things that can happen in a show – especially when it’s so good it’s all you can see.
AMANDA
I love Amanda. I do. I think that Amanda is fighting for her life because she doesn’t know who she is. She just knows that she has been married for a long time, and her husband won’t sign the divorce papers. He is punishing her for cheating. She should punish him for existing cause he’s trash.
After church, Mae and some friends talk Amanda into accepting a date offer from the sheriff.
Not sure why everyone seems to be telling her that she needs to date. It doesn’t make sense to me how they are not giving her time, and I do believe that she needs some time. Amanda is not sure of who she is. She’s a mother, yes. But who is she on a personal level? She has no clue, but gives in and says she’ll go on the date.
Dating is nerve-wracking. And having not dated since she was a teenager, it is probably why the date was so bad. But hey, Sergio walks in to save the day. He’s picking up something, and Amanda just had her date get the “emergency” call.
The thing about Sergio and Amanda is that their ease around each other is part of what makes this show so good. The chemistry between actors is just as important as a good script. The Chicken Sisters episodes are filled with chemistry and talented writing.
I am rooting for Sergio and Amanda. I think that the two of them really could be together.
MAE
Mae has changed a lot, and though I am surprised that she’s embracing Meranic as her home, I am glad she is. Being close to her Mom and sister has been good for her. She wants them to be happy, and while I can respect that, she’s also gotta find her way too.
But the most important thing about this episode is that Mae gets to meet her father. I know that she’s been asking for this, but seeing it happen, I wanted to jump through the screen and protect her. I know that Briggs is acting amazing to her, but there is always the chance that he will up and run again.
She’s not thinking like that, though. She’s asking questions and getting answers. She’s not asking all the questions that I would, but I am petty. She is not. Mae is trying to figure out how to balance this want that she has to know her father and keep building a relationship with her Mom.
Though Gus tells Mae that whatever she decides, she will have her back. And we know what Mae decides because we see her find a place for her Dad on the seating chart.
GUS & NANCY
I love Gus and Nancy living with each other. The two have an adorable friendship, and they aren’t overthinking what the other does.
They are just living the best life that they can live.
Nancy is in a new place in her life. Beau has gotten their plane tickets, and this means she’ll be leaving town for two months. The thing that bothers her is that Beau wants her to be the support for him.
Nancy doesn’t want to play second fiddle, the woman behind the man… she wants to be recognized for who she is.
Gus is having a hard time with Clayton being in town, and so she’s started resorting to old habits like hoarding. When Nancy finds it, she’s like ya, no. And she makes Gus clean it up with her.
The night is coming to an end, and Briggs knocks on the door. Hearing him out was something hard for Gus to do, but she did it, and it awakened a lot of things inside of her. He knew how to say the right words and draw her attention to him.
When the door closed as Clayton walked off, I smiled because Gus was able to feel loved and wanted. She needed that.
Nancy and Gus are older, but they sure as heck aren’t dead.
DUDLEY IS A DUD
Frankie is the most innocent person ever, and I can appreciate that. She’s going through a lot, but she still remains focused on her ultimate goal – moving to NY. However, at the end of the day, family comes first.
Her community comes first.
And the thoughts of, is she is good enough are always in her head. Why hasn’t her boyfriend kissed her? Has she done something wrong?
We all need a bestie like Linzey, because when Frankie tells her that she’s never kissed Dudley, Linzey is definitely going to get her that kiss. The two head to Dudley’s on a mission.
It turns out that all Frankie had to do was say she wanted to kiss Dudley, and he laid one of the most not passionate kisses on her. They both need a lot of practice because right now, they are boring AF.
But I am always here for girls supporting girls. Women supporting women.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Sabrina talking to her daughter and mothering so hard. We get it
- Linzey is there to fix everyone and everything, but who is gonna be there for her?
- I can’t even talk about Frank Jr.’s multiple breakdowns. Boy bye
- Frank Jr changing the cluckery recipe – I am hoping that he didn’t mimic his family recipe, cause Nancy will take him down.
- Frank Jr is the worst
- The mayor is telling Nancy to collect signatures to get something fixed.
