My Life With The Walter Boys, Season 2, Episode 5, was a rollercoaster ride. I feel nauseated over it, and that is not a good thing. We’re in the middle of dealing with a lot of people making some really stupid decisions.
Yes, I do feel confident in saying stupid decisions, but with some, I will add that those decisions are rights of passage – because some mistakes we need to learn on our own.
Mistakes can shape us, and trauma can break us. It’s just a matter of figuring out how to get through all of the life changes. There is no looking back, and after this episode, I do believe that it’s going to be a little difficult moving forward, too.
THE DANCE
Everyone is excited about the dance. The suits are pressed. Jackie and Grace are doing their makeup and getting ready upstairs. In walks Katherine, offering to help them with their hair.
I love this moment for Katherine, because it feels so innocent and sweet. It feels like she’s really stepping in and making sure that Jackie has this life that she promised that she would give. I honestly cried.
Because these are the moments we remember as we get older. We remember the moments with our parents.
The dance is perfect. It’s set up to look like Paris and Jackie should be proud.
It’s outside the dance that the beginning of what you know is going to be a lot. The football team shows up in a limo – and they didn’t invite Cole. With the Oklahoma scout having shown up earlier that day and then this, it was a lot of stress for him. He tried to act like he was not bothered. But he is.
Inside the dance, Ruby wants Cole’s attention. Skylar and Nathan are taking the most awkward pics. Jackie is just looking around at what has been created. Grace runs off to talk to others, and Jackie is content.
As the dance goes on, Jackie is paying attention to what her brothers are doing.
Until Cole.
He walks over to congratulate her, and she shows that she’s jealous of the time he spends with Ruby. He loves that she’s jealous. Jackie tries to change the subject, but that only ends up with her and Cole dancing.
It’s a win/win for us fans watching.
THE PAPER
No one likes to have to be at school on a Saturday morning. The newspaper is at the school getting its assignment. It’s in the newspaper meeting that really shows how bad Skylar and Nathan are – that there may be no coming back from this one.
When Nathan pitches an idea for a music column, Skylar gives it to Ramona. It’s obvious that he does it to keep Nathan and Zach from working together. It just isn’t a good look for Skylar, but they agree to talk about it later so that they can have a good time at the dance.
But Skylar is trying too hard, and you can visually see Nathan pulling away. He’s trying to stay put at the same time. Yes, Nathan is loving someone who is easy to talk to, and Skylar is not that person. He has to overcome a lot to pull things out of Skylar.
It’s just at the dance, Zach tells Nathan that he should go after what he wants. Zach has a lot of courage, because he follows up with what he wants is to kiss Nathan. While for a second, Nathan is hesitant, he grabs his tie and dude – they kissed with a lot of passion.
No shocker that Skylar was right there and saw the whole thing.
While I will never condone cheating, what I will say is that Skylar and Zach are exact opposites, and I can see why Nathan would be attracted to either one of them. Not shocked at all that Skylar called an end to the relationship and was done.
While I do blame the cheating for the breakup, I think that it was the end thing to a relationship that was already crumbling.
THE FIGHT
I think that we can all agree that Dylan is trash. He’s manipulative, self-serving, and he’s jealous of Cole. Cole watching Dylan hijack his life is a lot, and it would be a lot for anyone to handle. But does it mean get drunk and start a fight? No.
Cole intentionally runs into Dylan, and that starts an argument. Dylan has a bunch of excuses and a bunch of really crappy things to say. He tells Cole that he’s not part of the team anymore and to get over it.
Dylan has always been intimidated by Cole, but I also think that he is worried about his father. And hey, I would feel bad for him – but he’s just so cruel to everyone around him.
Not telling Cole that Oklahoma called and told him that he would have a spot in their program if he kept learning from Cole. Everything Dylan does is hijacking Coles’ life – he even tells Jackie that.
Cole is reckless when it comes to himself. I don’t believe that he wants to hurt anyone, but he does it as a way to push away those who will be there for him. He was just so out of line when he told Jackie to find someone else to fix.
It’s like shut up, Cole.
Dylan tells Cole to have fun with his sloppy seconds, as Cole starts to walk off with Ruby. Not shocked that Cole lunged at him. Really mad though that they smashed into tables, and the dance was cancelled.
Jackie looked broken – broken over Cole and the dance being shut down. I don’t know how he’ll recover from how mean he was with Jackie and the dance being shut down because of him. She worked so hard for this dance, and what he did really broke her.
THE ICK OF IT ALL
Cole Walter, I want to be mad at you for this – I do. But I can’t be mad, because I was both shocked and laughing so hard that I am torn.
Ruby had said that she would drive Cole home, but pulls him into the biology room to have sex. He’s drunk, and let’s be honest, Cole craves connection when he screws up. So there is no surprise to me that he wants to have sex.
But with Ruby? Do better.
I guess that’s why I can’t stop laughing when he starts kissing her and says, “I missed you, New York.”
Damn.
He wants Jackie!
We all know that, but it was like some sort of feeling I didn’t expect when he called Ruby by the wrong name. I about died. I was laughing. Now, I wouldn’t wish that upon anyone – being called the wrong name – but I found it so interesting that was the route the writers decided to take.
I applaud that. Put Ruby in her place.
I DON’T WANT TO BE SECOND
Danny, I love you. I think you are the sweetest. I do not think, though, that what happened between Erin and Danny was especially right here. As a matter of fact, I think she’s in the wrong, kinda.
When the fight happened, Danny ran to his brother to pull him off Dylan. If there is anything that all the people of Silver Falls should know, it’s that the Walters always have each other’s backs.
Erin becomes upset with Danny and will not say anything on the ride home. She just stares out the window.
What I can admire about Danny is that he asks what he did wrong and tells her that he doesn’t know what he’s done. A lot of people would make excuses, but not Danny. He wants to learn and be a better person and boyfriend to her.
Erin says that he left her on the dance floor for Cole. She doesn’t want to be second to Cole. She was second to everything when she was in a relationship with Cole.
While I do believe that Cole is always up to something, I think that anyone who dates anyone of the Walter boys should know that family will always come first. There is a responsibility that this family has for each other.
And I don’t think that’s wrong.
But Danny, he tells her that she’s right and she should never feel second. I about fell out of my chair with the romance that happened next. Danny finds the song that he left her with, turns it up, and dances outside in the rain with her.
Damn, Danny has rizz.
THE TRUTH
Jackie is young, and I do understand that being young, you’re going to make choices that you wouldn’t necessarily make when you’re older. You would know that if you kept a secret for months on end and didn’t tell the truth, after a long time, if you tell that secret, it’s more about unburdening yourself than anything.
And that’s not fair.
Yes, Alex is mad at her. He has every reason to be angry, thinking that she left because he told her that he loved her, and then she left. She disappeared and left without saying goodbye. Now, we all may know that the reason she left was that kiss with Cole.
And that kiss she should have taken to the grave.
But she doesn’t.
Jackie confronts Alex about his feelings being all over the place. He – well, he tells her that he is still mad, because she left. Her told her that he loved her, and she disappeared without a word. He’s mad that he can’t move on from her.
Now, I think that we can all understand that Jackie probably feels like crap at this point. We can all respect it. But guilt should not make you say more and make things worse. Instead, Jackie caves and tells her that she left because she and Cole kissed.
And you know that you did wrong when lightning strikes the barn right after. Even Mother Nature was like ya, let’s not do that. You should have kept all this to yourself.
Alex goes running into the barn to save the horses
This episode ended in a way that left me on the edge of my seat, asking myself what was going to happen. I really, truly didn’t expect it.
