The Chicken Sisters, Season 2, Episode 4 is all about the past and the way that the sins of the past intersect with the reality of the present. Small towns are incubators of gossip, craziness, and assumptions. It doesn’t matter how much time passes, things are never forgotten and they are only moved past. And even then, they are living rent free somewhere in someones mind.
They are preserved.
The town is changing and while that is something that a lot of people may not mind, some do. The town was rooted in rivalry and even that not being its identity anymore makes me wonder how everything will change.
This episode had a few things going on, but to me – the most important thing was Amanda and Mae finding their footing and Nancy finding her strength.
SERGIO OF IT ALL
I love Amanda and Sergio together and I do understand why they can’t be right now. It’s easy to understand why it is that they need to be friends first and they need to find their own footing in the town.
But you can tell that he’s got it bad for Amanda. The way that he looks at her and the way that he lights up when she walks in the room – it’s the kind of love and admiration that anyone would want. Their friendship banter is kind of awkward but it is what we have for now.
Amanda tries to give Sergio a nickname and it’s “biscuit” which makes me feel like she wasn’t even trying. Though if we’re being honest, that probably was trying for Amanda and her way of flirting. It made me laugh.
Sergio has another visitor – one that he didn’t want to see. Who? His ex-wife.
When an ex returns and wants Sergio involved in her restaurant, you see him struggling with decisions. You can tell that he’s hurt – that everything that he’s felt is rising to the surface. She may be acting like nothing is wrong, but for Sergio there will always be the lines that were crossed.
Sergio has always been a good man – one that you want to protect. He’s been the person that brought Amanda to life, when she was just existing. It’s sad that Amanda is going to somewhat be destroyed over seeing him with his ex. Miscommunications happen and perception is reality.
When Sergio is turning his ex down, Amanda sees them and thinks that what she’s seen an intimate moment, but what she’s really seeing is goodbye.
DETERMINED
Nancy has spent a lot of her life in the background – doing what she’s told and making other people shine. But now, she’s struggling. Even Beau wants Nancy to stand in the background, supporting him. Nancy wants to be the one to do something. To accomplish something.
For her she found a purpose in trying to get the train stop fixed. There should be no reason that everyone in the town should have to lift it every time they drove past. Her mission is simple – 300 signatures. But her regular way of doing things won’t work.
Nancy being nice isn’t going to get them to sign. Instead she notices how many people just feel like they can put her off.
It’s when Nancy becomes firmer and really takes a stand that people take notice. I think that is important because people need to know that she’s serious. They need to see that she’s not just Franks wife, Beaus girlfriend or Frank Jr’s Mom.
She gets her signatures and people are impressed. Heck, even I am impressed. Her boldness, her pitch, her unwillingness to give up is something special.
And who would have known that it would be Shawna that would have rallied Nancy to get the signatures that she needed.
BACHELORETTE
Mae getting married – I do believe that she is excited for all of the possibilities. But it’s her bachelorette party that cracks me up. She wants this sophisticated dinner and I am not sure why. It feels like she’s trying to prove that she’s something that she isn’t and that actually makes me feel bad for her.
When she overhears one of the guests basically dragging her party she sends them all home. She’s upset but I do feel like to a point she’s more angry at herself than anyone else.
The guests rally to head back to Maes and give her something fun. A scavenger hunt. And hey they all end up having a good time.
I think it is so important that we showcase the ups and downs of relationships and one that is extra important to see is the relationship between Amanda and Mae. The need each other. It doesn’t matter that they are extremely different and while sometimes that would be a hinderance – I don’t feel it is here.
They are both searching for something and I think mostly that is a sense of belonging and family. They want to be able to relate to each other. Taking care of each other comes somewhat second nature.
It’s the relationships that are formed in The Chicken Sisters that makes it such an enjoyable show.
