I loved The Wrong Paris so much that I was still riding on the joy of watching it when I signed into Zoom to do my interviews. Were there nerves? Absolutely. But more than nerves, there was an excitement.
Hannah Stocking, Madison Pettis, and Yvonne Orji all star in the movie, alongside Miranda Cosgrove and Pierson Fode. The three of them were together for our four-minute interview, and let me tell you – 4 minutes isn’t long enough to get all the answers one would want.
But I would take it.
Because The Wrong Paris was the movie we need right now. We need an escape from reality. The world is a chaotic place, and I don’t know about you, but I need an escape.
In the movie, which is like The Bachelor meets well, every rom-com we can think of – Cosgrove plays Dawn. She’s an aspiring artist who has been accepted to school in Paris. She doesn’t have the money to cover tuition, but no worries – her sister has a plan. She talks her into auditioning for a dating show, The Honey Pot.
Dawn isn’t one for dating shows, but knows that the appearance fee can cover her tuition. No surprise, she gets on the show. She knows she’s joined for the wrong reasons, but doesn’t care. She’s laser-focused.
Until she’s reminded that she won’t get her appearance fee if she leaves without the “honey” not choosing her.
This means that she’s going to have to convince him to send her home. The problem is, he has been enamored with her since he met her at a bar and watched her throw someone out. His attraction to her had happened even before the show started.
Yvonne Orji plays my favorite character in the movie, Rachel. She’s a no-nonsense producer who has an eye for what people want to see. She doesn’t care about followers – she cares about the overall story. I couldn’t help but love the way she knew how to spin everything.
When I asked them why they wanted to be involved with the movie, Orji said, “I wanted to do it because I love love. The fact that when I read the script, and I was like, “Oh, her arc is one that is not what people would suspect for a producer of these shows.”
She went to say, “Rachel was like, ‘No, I want them to find love. I believe in it, and I see it, and I want it for them because I want it for myself.” Yes, I jumped at it. Who doesn’t love a good love story? The wedding industry is like a gazillion-dollar industry. People love love or just expensive things.”
Pettis played Lexi Miller, an influencer who is worried about follower count versus falling in love. We couldn’t understand why Trey would keep her, unless it were some producer telling him that it was necessary.
When asked the same question, Pettis, who we know from The Game Plan, said, “I was excited for a few reasons. One, rom-coms are my favorite thing to make. Two, I was excited to work with Miranda, whom I’ve always looked up to and think is so funny. I’ve been watching her my entire life, basically. I was also excited to do it because I get to do a Southern accent for the first time. I’m also from Texas, so it just felt really meant to be for me.”
