The first time that I heard the name Devon Franklin was on Instagram. If you follow Tanya Rad on the app, you know that she introduces you to people that you may have never known of. Devon Franklin was one that I happened to have caught onto.
While I am not a person who is religious, I can appreciate peoples insights. Franklin being one. He’s a producer, author and motivational speaker. He produces the Netflix movie, Ruth & Boaz, a modern-day retelling of the biblical love story, alongside Tyler Perry.
It’s the casting of Ruth & Boaz, that makes it captivating. Casting Serayah as Ruth was one of the best pieces of casting that I have seen. Her strength, vulnerability, and the way that she embraces the character with such gusto that you forget that she’s Serayah. She embraces her character. You root for Ruth and want to be her bestie to protect her.
And her voice – WOW.
Tyler Lepley as Boaz will make you drool, but also the character is written in such a way that you know that you don’t want to settle for a man that is less than the man that Boaz is. He’s strong, fearless, forgiving, and captivating. He’s motivating and he’s protective.
With Ruth & Boaz, you can tell that Franklin and Perry had a vision and put their heart and soul into the movie. They didn’t want to be preachy, but they wanted to give a retelling of the story in such a way that peoples hearts were affected with positivity and the knowledge that you can believe in a better life. You should not give up on yourself or those around you.
You are worthy of love.
