Excitingly, Shrinking will return for another season on Apple TV. The comedy series wrapped up its sophomore season in December 2024. The streamer renewed the show early – after Shrinking Season 2, Episode 1, “Jimmying,” and Shrinking Season 2, Episode 2, “I Love Pain,” premiered in October.
“I’m so lucky to work on Shrinking with actors, writers, and a crew so talented that they all elevate the material. I’m even luckier that they are people I’d want to spend time with anyway,” co-creator and executive producer Bill Lawrence said at the time. “Huge thanks to Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. for the amazing partnership and support. So grateful we get to keep making this show. Onward!”
Shrinking’s second season received several Emmy nominations, which included Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Jason Segel, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Harrison Ford and Michael Urie, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Jessica Williams, and Outstanding Comedy Series. Notably, Ford’s nomination marked his first-ever Emmy nomination.

What Is Shrinking Season 3 About?
Apple TV and the creative team behind the show have yet to release any official synopsis about Shrinking Season 3. However, it has been widely reported and confirmed in interviews with co-creator Lawrence that the comedy series had a three-season plan. “Don’t forget, we pitched this show where the first year is about grief, [the] second year is about forgiveness, [and the] third year is about moving forward, “Lawrence told Yahoo! in December 2024.
Lawrence added, “It would be weird to not include his [Brett Goldstein’s] character as part of that.” Shrinking Season 2, Episode 12, “The Last Thanksgiving,” saw Jimmy show up for Louis when he needed support. The season finale combated loneliness by bringing the ensemble together, and that scene between Segel and Golstein brought Louis into that fold.

Who Is Joining and Returning to Shrinking?
A few new people are joining Shrinking’s cast for its upcoming third season. The returning ensemble includes Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, and Ted McGinley.
At Newport Beach TV Fest in June 2025, Jason Segel confirmed that his How I Met Your Mother costar Cobie Smulders would return for Shrinking Season 3. Smulders guest-starred as Sofi on Shrinking Season 2, Episode 10, “Changing Patterns,” when Jimmy buys a car for his daughter, Alice, from Sofi. At that same festival, Segel confirmed that co-creator Brett Goldstein will reprise his role of Louis in Shrinking Season 3. Guest stars Damon Wayans Jr. and Wendie Malick will also return as Derek and Dr. Julie Baram, respectively.
In March 2025, Deadline exclusively reported that Jeff Daniels would join them in a guest recurring role as Jimmy’s father in Shrinking Season 3. A month later, it was announced that Sherry Cola and Isabella Gomez would recur in the third season, but their roles were kept under wraps.
By May 2025, Deadline exclusively reported that Michael J. Fox would join the show in a major guest-starring role. Details about Fox’s role are unknown, but his appearance on Shrinking marks a reunion with the show’s co-creator Bill Lawrence. Fox starred in four seasons of Lawrence’s first show as a creator, Spin City, which premiered on ABC in 1996. Lawrence revealed that Candice Bergen would appear in Shrinking Season 3 during the “Bill Lawrence and Friends” panel at ATX TV Festival. He let it slip that Bergen would share scenes with Harrison Ford and Michael J. Fox.

When Does Shrinking Season 3 Premiere?
Apple TV shared a video of Harrison Ford and Jason Segel on Tuesday, July 22. It confirmed that production on the season had wrapped. Filming began on the latest season in February of this year.
In October, the streamer announced that Shrinking Season 3 would premiere with a one-hour episode on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Christa Miller, who stars as Liz and acts as the show’s music supervisor, teased news about the show a day before the announcement. The 11-episode season will release one episode weekly until the season finale on April 8, 2026.
