We always knew that with Gibbs such a big part of the NCIS franchise, and with Mark Harmon providing the voiceover for NCIS: Origins, we would end up seeing the character sooner rather than later. We just didn’t expect it to be this soon.
Because yes, Mark Harmon is back! The actor will make a special guest appearance as the older version of Leroy Jethro Gibbs. And it will come soon! Harmon will appear during the first crossover event between the two shows, which is set to air Tuesday, November 11.
The synopsis for the episodes reads as follows: “Gibbs and team investigate the small-town death of a naval officer in the ‘90s,” and then on NCIS, airing at 9 pm, the same case is “unexpectedly re-opened in the present day.” For that Tuesday only, NCIS: Origins will air at 8 PM, with NCIS to follow at 9 PM.
Harmon is an executive producer for both NCIS and NCIS: Origins and narrates every episode of the prequel, but has not appeared onscreen as Gibbs since the NCIS: Origins pilot.
“Four years ago, Gibbs disappeared to Alaska to live a life of solitude,” said co-showrunners and executive producers David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal. “We know how much fans have missed seeing Mark and have wondered what Gibbs is up to today. Well, on Nov. 11, we’re so excited to announce that Mark Harmon will return as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the ORIGINS hour of the NCIS crossover event. We don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say Gibbs is no longer alone.”
*scream* What do you mean he is no longer alone?
“I’m very proud of the storytelling that David and Gina are doing on ORIGINS,” Harmon said. “They continue to push boundaries and dive deeper into the characters’ backstories. They came to me with an idea for Gibbs that I liked, and it seemed like a good time to check in with him. I hope fans enjoy it.”
Okay, but full stop. What does he is no longer alone mean? Is this going to tie back to Lala, whose story he is telling with NCIS: Origins? After assuming the reason she was never mentioned was that she was dead, could she be not just alive but with Gibbs in the present time? Who else could it be? Is it November 11th yet?

Good to see him again. Looking forward to seeing who is with him as well. (probably someone from the past who is somehow still alive.)
And I must say, seeing the whole press world going nuts about this, makes me wish someone ELSE who has been ‘missing’ for well more then a year would also make a surprise return and make us all gasp in happiness. (like a very small old woman who can’t seem to stop getting into trouble overseas).
