Bad boys – may we know them, may we love them, may we not get into any trouble with them. Bad boys feel like a right of passage for any “good girl” and that is definitely a hill that I will stand on.
We all have to let loose every once in awhile.
As I continue the journey down a rabbit hole of Vertical series – like so many I have discovered the Adonis body and acting of Evan Adams. He’s definitely one of the actors that fans of verticals are drooling over.
My cougar a** included.
Unable to sleep last night, I opened up Dramabox and was greeted with his face. Had I seen Wild Ride With Dangerous Kian? No. Did I have about 30-45 before the Trazadone kicked in? Yup. So, play was pressed and I settled in for the hot mess express that I was about to go down.
I WAS WRONG ABOUT A MESS
Only, it wasn’t exactly the hot mess express. It was actually no bad at all and I like when I can be surprised. Having watched more movies and television shows than I care to admit to – I was cocky and thought that I knew exactly what would happen.
Maybe it was because it was 2am and I wasn’t on the top of my game or maybe it was something else, but I wasn’t prepared. I was prepared for the plot holes, the smacking and catching of hands, and the overwhelming amount of times that someone would suggest teaching someone a lesson.
Characters in vertical movies are MEAN. There is always someone trying to be like they’re mine – and that person is like who are you?
Enter the knight in black leather and sunglasses at night that are fugly and don’t look right. When we find that he’s actually the “Dark King” – I have to admit that I thought we were going all supernatural up in this thing, but it wasn’t.
Serious question – why does every man think they have to carry a woman around? I mean they are capable of walking and I pretty much guarantee any woman is going to want you to exert your strength in other ways.
WHAT THE BAD BOY DOES
Car chases, gangs, cops, sex, and more – everything happens. There is A LOT of touching – but honestly, that’s not a bad thing. Sure, Kian and Lydia are gonna have sex, but I think that we’re all into taking it slower and sometimes touch is more sensual than the actual act of fornication.
Yes, I said fornication.
I’m the kind of guy your Dad warned you about …
-Kian
In some of these series the cast has no chemistry. BUT these two – Jameson Leigh Muntz and Evan Adams have chemistry. They are playing complete opposites, but somehow that’s what makes them getting together even better. Partially because it enables them to protect each other, but also because it makes the characters have a chance to grow.
And growth is what this or any show is partially about.
Kian is very protective and quite frankly a little scary at times. He definitely loves to pick up Lydia and carry her around. Is he toxic? The relationship is. He’s really confusing at times and I am wondering if they knew who the character was going to be or were there some editing issues. Either way, can overlook a lot when it comes to verticals because I know I am in for some plot holes, characters that are confusing, and people who apparently don’t know continuity.
SEX?
As a vertical series watcher you know that everyone is horny, but you will also respect that they are big on consent in relationships (the ones I have watched so far). I respect that. Use your words is a frequent part of the dialogue. I think that it’s important that consent be a part of any and all conversations.
Now, do they play into every preconceived notion one may have about the good girl and the bad boy? Absolutely. Do I love that? Yes. Does the mean blonde think she’s Regina George? Again, yes. There are a lot of people that need to have a come to Jesus moment and realize that they stink.
Kian and Lydia both try to push each other away and fate has a way of bringing them back together. The more that they push, the more that fate pulls at them. She’s lying to her Dad, a cop, and he’s pulling away from his friends.
When they almost get caught together, it’s always an argument. They push each others buttons and they don’t seem to know how to communicate through words. Their bodies definitely communicate.
While all verticals are formulaic, sometimes it’s the formula and the actors that make it good. Sometimes you need to embrace the so bad its good.
As it goes on – we need more conflict and we get it. Kian’s brother pops up, drama there. He’s a douche. Serious question though – why are brothers always so competative and wanting to steal their brothers signifcant others? So confused.
Lydia’s found community with Kian and the Dark Hawks. Have no clue why it is that people don’t like her – but here we are. The Dark Hawks are showing up for her when no one else did. She’s feeling loved but the schools Regina George needs to be expelled or like punished in some way shape or form.
KIAN YOU’RE WHIPPED & WE LOVE IT
Kian’s always there and that’s the kind of man anyone wants. But when it comes time to push her away – he does and she won’t give up on him. He realizes that he once killed her Mom in an accident. BUT, only he didn’t. His brother set him up to take the fall.
Louis you’re trash. With calling his brother a murderer he tries to get into Lydias head. That’s the last thing that she knows.
Talking, twists and turns, we find out how horrible Louis is. When he assaults Lydia and Kian shows up, I cheered. It takes a short time for us all find out Louis is the crazy brother and that Kian was setup – I cheered.
When Kian’s willing to give up his life of crime – I cheered.
Granted I didn’t stand up, but the bed was comfortable and warm and it is winter.
I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did. You’ll laugh at grown adults getting grounded, the music they play every time Kian removes an article of clothing, and root for people to win and some to lose.
It’s an escape, and if you’re in need of an escape I suggest this be a way that you can and do escape.
Who knows if they’ll get a happily every after. I don’t. But I can always settle for a happily ever right now.
