When asked once if I could go without music or movies – which would I choose? If I am being honest, I wouldn’t be able to choose. Music comes alive in my mind and it plays out like a movie. The latest EP to give me a movie in my mind while listening to it is Kelsea Ballerini‘s, Mt. Pleasant. It tells a cohesive story and that’s part of what I love it.
On November 17th, Ballerini performed a pop up show in Nashville and performed five songs from the EP. She opened up about the music during the show. A Nashville production studio was changed to a park – swing set and all.
When Ballerini opened up between each song about the music. It’s something that not every artist does. No one is ever owed answers, but it’s also a lot of greatness when we get to know the story behind the music.
It is a big deal here because the internet was turning her song Emerald City into a conspiracy theory. The internet says that it is about Madelyn Cline. Ballerini addressed the conversation saying, “I write songs to relate to, not to make a point on the internet.”
At the end of the set – after performing Check On Your Friends, Ballerini said, “Thanks for embracing the not-so-glittery parts of me over the last few years. I know that I’m the luckiest to be able to have all these very big feelings and be like, ‘I need to put it in music or I will combust.’”
She then continued, “To have a team and a label that has allowed me to do that over the years, whenever it feels right … I just want to say that the biggest thank you to the trust fall that it’s been consistently back and forth with Black River and Sandbox and CAA and, and everyone that’s here that’s been a part of this that just allows me to just do this — good, bad, ugly, red, green, and happy and sad.”
