This week’s episode of Boston Blue, “Baggage Claim” was different for us. Usually, we love Lena and Danny’s case the most, and while that one was fine, there were other parts that we liked better in Season 1 Episode 7. And ultimately, we were the most invested in Sarah’s case as it brought up a debate: is it more important to be a sister or a cop? We review.
Family Comes First

At the beginning of Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 7 ‘Baggage Claim,’ Sarah must suspend an officer for threatening her sister’s boyfriend. Sarah made the right call as the superintendent. However, we could definitely tell she was upset after Joyce informed her that her sister’s boyfriend was abusing her. This became a topic at the Silver family dinner table, and the Silvers came to the conclusion that a cop’s first duty is to uphold the law.
Since we’re not cops, we have a different perspective than the Silvers.
We think Joyce was worried about her sister, but she should have handled it differently. If she had been smarter and not threatened Ava’s boyfriend, then Sarah wouldn’t have been put in the position that she was. Cops can’t go around threatening people. But we understand that sometimes logic goes out the window when your family is involved. Especially if your family or loved ones are in danger. In the end, we think Joyce just was really concerned about her sister and was more worried about Ava than her career. And we respect that. Afterall, jobs are replaceable. Family isn’t.
Sarah really shined in this episode. You could tell how torn she was about having to discipline Joyce even though all she wanted was to protect her sister. She also was calm under pressure during a dangerous situation. If she hadn’t been calm when talking to Ava’s boyfriend, he may not have surrendered himself. He could have seriously hurt Ava or killed her. Sarah’s cases usually are second to Lena and Danny’s, and we’re glad that this episode let us see the kind, caring person that she is. She’s also a leader and cop that others can trust.
We’re also glad that during the Silver family dinner, Jonah made sure everyone knew he would always protect his sisters. We don’t think he has anything to worry about. Sarah and Lena seem more than capable of taking care of themselves, but it was nice to know that he loves them and would do anything to help them.
Frequent Flier

We really enjoyed Sean and Jonah’s story in ‘Baggage Claim.’ It was funny to watch them encounter someone familiar, and we assumed Eddie is a “frequent flier” based on how they immediately recognized him. Eddie literally stole a wallet right in front of Sean and Jonah and said “It wasn’t me.” And then when they tackled him, Eddie said “I feel like we’re getting engaged.” So funny. It brought some much-needed humor to the episode.
Sean really does have a bleeding heart. He thought Eddie could be useful, and he was! And by letting Eddie ride along with them, it gave Eddie a chance to help and feel good about himself. That being said, Sean and Jonah are better people than we are because we would have gone crazy riding with Eddie. He wouldn’t stop talking!
But maybe riding with Sean and Jonah and actually helping and doing good for once, will help him turn his life around. Who knows. Crazier things have happened.
Other Thoughts:

- Our hearts broke for Lena in Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 7 ‘Baggage Claim’ as we could tell how much this case meant to her. It was also a chance to see her lose her cool. She’s always so calm and usually the level-headed one between her and Danny. It was a different side of Lena, and it was kind of nice to see that she’s not perfect. This case really got to her, and she let her emotions take over.
- Danny had to be the reasonable one here, which was different, but we liked seeing the different side of him as well. He did what Lena needed in the episode and also gave her some hard truths. By being rational instead of emotional, he helped Lena catch her “white whale”. Hopefully Lena can have some peace and move forward.
- It’s nice to know that Danny can have Lena’s back when she’s having a hard time and vice-versa. That’s what makes a good partnership.
- Also, we have to mention that Lena looked gorgeous looked in that green dress. Absolutely amazing! And Danny wasn’t half bad either in his suit.
- Mae’s case proved to us that social media and AI are scary. Anything can be altered and show what you want. And some people will believe anything.
- We enjoyed the fantasy football discussion between Sean and Jonah at the beginning. We’ve been known to keep players on our fantasy team or want our real team to keep players around just because they’re good people. The conversation also introduced Sean’s “bleeding heart” into the episode. Which was appropriate. Nice job, writers.
