If there is one role that you’ll be under an intense amount of pressure and scrutiny for, it would be playing Britney Spears. The pop stars’ every breath is analyzed, and if we’re being honest, no one can live up to that pressure.
We know that Spears’ biography, The Woman in Me, is being adapted. The book examines Spears’ life, career, and the conservatorship she was under. In the book, Spears focuses on themes of freedom, fame, motherhood, and survival. Bringing this to life needs to be done with care and understanding.
So who would be the best to play Spears? A name that has been tossed around a lot is Tate McRae. The 22-year-old singer recently had a Rolling Stone feature and was asked if she would ever want to play the pop star.

“I need to take an acting lesson before I’d even consider ever doing anything,” she told the magazine, “And also, I feel like I look nothing like her or sound nothing like her, so I don’t know if I’d be a great fit.”
THEY’VE MET
McRae began her career as a child on So You Think You Can Dance, as well as lending her voice to kids’ cartoons and appearing in 2014’s Annie. McRae has commented many times on her love for Spears, and back in 2024, Spears interviewed her for V Magazine. Spears commented on what a great performer McRae is and asked where she got her inspiration from.
After thanking her, McRae said, “I find that a lot of the inspiration comes from the musical arrangement. One of my favorite parts of the process is playing around and finding new variations of each song—I feel like that always inspires new choreography and a different feeling. However, looking back at iconic performances (like yours) is also very motivating.”
We love both of their performances, but we’re glad we’ve got McRae’s response to if she’d ever play Spears. Who would you want to play Spears in an adaptation?
