Our hearts go out to Jesy Nelson and her fiancé, Zion Foster, as well as their beautiful twins. Sharing a heartbreaking update about one’s life isn’t an easy thing, especially when it involves one’s children.
The singer took to social media and gave an update on her twins – Ocean Jade and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster, letting the world know that they have been diagnosed with the rare genetic condition, spinal muscular atrophy type 1 (SMA1).
According to Google, spinal muscular atrophy type 1, “is the most severe form, characterized by severe muscle weakness, floppy limbs (hypotonia), poor head control, and difficulty with breathing and feeding, appearing from birth or within the first six months, often leading to respiratory failure and shortened life expectancy, though early treatment significantly improves outcomes.”
THE POST
Jesy said in the video, “We were told that they’re probably never going to be able to walk; they probably will never regain their neck strength, so they will be disabled, and so the best thing we can do right now is to get them treatment, and then just hope for the best.”
Hearing the former Little Mix singer say that, we teared up for her. That hit us hard in the heart, so we can’t even imagine what she and her family are going through.
She continued, “Thankfully, the girls have had their treatment, which you know, I’m so grateful for because if they don’t have it, they will die.”
The singer spoke about the symptoms that the girls had, and said, “I just think that I can raise as much awareness about this as possible, and the signs, then, you know, something good has to come out of this.”
She also said, “If anyone is watching this video and they think they see these signs in their child, then please, please take your child to the doctor, to the hospital, because time is of the essence, and your child will need treatment. And the quicker you get this, the better their life will be.”
Being so open can’t be easy, but we’re thankful that she’s so open. Even being there for one person and making a difference for one person, being open is worth it.
