When it comes to Wuthering Heights, it is no surprise to anyone that we are in the films promotional window. We love a good promotional window. All of the interviews, explanations of rumors, photo shoots, etc.
We’re had a question about Wuthering Heights and it’s been one that we were hoping someone noticed and would ask. Why is the title of the movie in quotes? It is something so big and so small at the same time.
Truthfully, we’re not saying another movie has not done this – it’s just the first one that we’ve seen. Luckily the director, Emerald Fennell has answered the question in an interview with Fandango.
“The thing for me is you can’t adapt a book as dense and complicated and difficult as this book,” Emerald said. “I can’t say I’m making Wuthering Heights. It’s not possible.”

That truly is fair. She also addressed a question that quite a few have wondered. When adapting a book, it normally says something like “based on the book by…” but Wuthering Heights doesn’t do that. It says “inspired by the greatest love story,” and some people have questions as to why.
“What I can say is I’m making a version of it,” she added. “There’s a version that I remembered reading that isn’t quite real. And there’s a version where I wanted stuff to happen that never happened. And so it is Wuthering Heights, and it isn’t.”
We’re intrigued by all of this. Wuthering Heights is one of our favorite books of all time.
