If you loved The Martian, then Project Hail Mary is probably right up your alley. The movie, based on the 2021 book by Andy Weir, centers on a school teacher who is sent into space to find a way to reverse a solar dimming event that could cause the extinction of life on Earth. You know, normal stuff for the author of The Martian.
The movie stars Ryan Gosling and Sandra Hüller. The screenplay is by Drew Goddard (his second Andy Weir adaptation), and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are the directors. It is the pair’s first film since 2014’s 22 Jump Street.
We might not know much about how the movie might follow and differ from the books, but the first trailer was released with the words “11.9 Light-years from home. 6th grade science teacher. 1 chance to save us all.” And of course, there are three different trailers, which you can watch below. And while we wait for March to get here (and wow, how time flies), we recommend reading the book. It might not have Ryan Gosling, but it’ll make the wait until the adaptation pass by so much faster. Plus, it’s just a really good book. We promise.
