I think that no one would argue when I say that all of the characters in Tell Me Lies are fundamentally flawed. I think that sometimes I was stupid enough to think that they are all just growing and that’s why we need to have patience with them.
There is no amount of patience or understanding that can make me think that any of them are worthy or capable of redemption. Bold statement, I know. But I don’t see how any of them are redeemable, because they move two steps forward and then five steps back. It’s insane to me how all of them keep saying that they don’t want to be the way they are. They don’t want the same mistakes to keep happening and they want to be better people.
But they aren’t.

Instead we’re seeing that all of the characters on this show all have some really screwed up things happening with them. Evan is a down-low Steven and in some ways he may be equally as bad. Bree has issues, but I do think that this episode may have been what broke her. And then there is Steven, who seemed as though he was doing something nice, but we all know how that goes. Pippa and Diana – well that got intense, but also lost all respect for Pippa. And then Wrigley – WHY SIR, JUST TELL ME WHY!
I Will Promise Not to Sting isn’t this prolific episode that sets this world on its access, but it does set up the possibility of new directions and also makes us see new sides to people. This episode seemed to give us a road map to things we knew – in desperate need of a change for all the guilty parties.
And they are all guilty.
It’s the day of Bree’s show and as we all know them all getting in the same space is a recipe for disaster. Nothing in Tell Me Lies is ever wrapped up in a nice bow. Nothing in Tell Me Lies isn’t chaos. I think we all know that.

WRIGLEY AND BREE
At the end of the previous episode, we know that Wrigley and Bree kissed. Don’t think we didn’t pick up right where we left off, because we did and that is firmly planted in our seats on the hot mess express.
There is no denying that Bree and Wrigley are attracted to each other. They have this discussion on what comes next and for them that means breaking up with their current partners. This – well this is about the only thing that I can respect about either of them as most of them would have just cheated without thinking twice.

Don’t get me wrong – they are still cheating, but it’s the whole breakup with others before they let it go beyond a kiss.
I am struggling to say something nice about either of them right now, so just bear with me.
Wrigley has been the one person that seemed to be going on a path that he was becoming unproblematic. He’s trying to do the right thing and that means breaking up with Pippa is the next step for him. Rip that bandaid off.

DIANA, PIPPA, & THE INTENSITY
He definitely ripped that bandaid off.
Pippa doesn’t take the breakup really well and I don’t think any of them can really be shocked by that. First, Wrigley did it as awkwardly as possible. He was trying to be a good guy and I think that even Pippa can see that eventually. She just can’t right at that moment, which is fair.
Even if a breakup is mutual (which I think for these two it is – even if not obvious to Pippa) it’s still going to hurt. There is always going to be pain when you are rejected.
Pippa heads straight to Diana’s and even that I get. A breakup means Pippa isn’t cheating and she can be with the one she wants to be with. Only she manages to screw that one up. Diana told her she was going to Stanford.
Now do I get that she feels like she was losing someone else? Yes. But her expecting Diana to plan her life around her was out of line. Diana had just done that multiple times for Steven and she had worked hard to make a life for herself that did not involve Steven in any way. There is also the fact that one should never ask that of someone.
The conversation turned intense and Diana said that they probably shouldn’t do this anymore.

MOM, PHOTOS, AND LYING LIARS
Evan is just so wrong. He convinced Bree to let him pick up her Mom from the train station. This night is such a big deal for Bree and he claims her wants to help. But again, he’s just proving himself to be the worst.
Do I understand wanting to spend all the time you can with the one that you love? Yes. But Evan doesn’t love Bree, he’s manipulative and scheming and quite frankly obsessed. To me it comes across as if he’s gaslighting her ALL THE TIME, when he’s the one that did wrong.
When Evan pics up Mary, he takes her to drink. Did he tell Bree that? No. He said he picked her up and she was this drunk. Liar. Mary showed up for her daughter for the first time in her life and to Evan that screams – no, I need to be the most important person in Brees life. Newsflash Evan, you haven’t been that for her for quite some time.
The whole event is overshadowed by Bree having to take care of her Mom and try to convince her that she wants her there. That was caused by Evan getting her drunk. Do you think Evan tried to help Bree? Cause he didn’t. He’s off looking at photographs. He’s watching it all unfold and just doesn’t seem to care.
But for Bree, what should be one of the best nights of her life is overshadowed by Evan. I guess we can blame Oliver because he told Evan that Bree is the type of person that needs to feel like she needs someone. So that’s what Evan was trying to do with Bree, but it doesn’t make it right.
It makes you evil Evan.

WRIGLEY AND PIPPA
Now, I try to forgive, but this is just scratching the surface of what is wrong with this group of people. Pippa doesn’t show up to Bree’s thing, but calls Wrigley to tell him to please meet her. She needs him.
I get that Pippa has had a really bad day. I respect the fact that she needs her best friend. However, after you’ve broken up and then begging and guilting him for sex? Pippa, please. Pull yourself together.
Wrigley gives in, after saying no quite a few times. Wrigley, I was hoping you were a good guy, but you are so in the wrong for that. He looks physically bored doing it, but she looks like there is still a possibility for the two of them to be together. He gave her some sense of hope and that hope will be part of what destroys her. But also, I think that it’s going to destroy him.
I don’t think he should have done it. Her feeling that she has to connect with someone physically and that sex will solidify her being needed – it’s quite sad. Wrigley knows that she doesn’t know the entire situation, but I think that he does and that’s what makes it worse. He knew that he was doing wrong and that is what made it worse.

THE GIRLS
So that night, Lucy has a breakdown and ends up at Stevens again. She begs him to see the video, to which he gives in. It’s bad, like really bad. I just was confused – as Steven watched her break – he felt bad.
He already thought she was playing with him. Their last interaction was her saying she’d tell Bree that Evan cheated with her, and that Steven and her could work things out. Gotta give it to Lucy, she knows how to lie.
Steven giving her the video – even she was confused. He tells her to take it and go. She leaves and for the first time in a long time she feels hope.
The issue is – none of them should. Bree, Pippa, and Lucy are all in the perfect position to get screwed over. The three of them are loosing each other also.

THE PHOTO
Pippa tells them that she had sex the night before with Wrigley. See – his mistakes are already coming back to haunt him. Granted, Wrigley tried to call Bree and tell her himself (look at me giving him the benefit of the doubt), but she heard from Pippa.
There’s also the fact that he shouldn’t have slept with Pippa.
When Pippa says it – Bree looks like someone punched her in the gut. She heads out of the room and into the bathroom, claiming she needs a shower. But we do see her break down. She’s destroyed.

This is definitely complicated. Then again, what on this show isn’t.
Bree goes to hide at Evans and while he’s showering, she’s at his table looking through photos on her computer. Looking through old photos is never smart. In the photo she sees Evan talking to Lucy – and his hand is on her hip. She knows this is the night he cheated.
So we end with her grabbing his phone. Lets hope he wasn’t stupid enough to give her the passcode.
