Look, we’re not really the type to hype sad movies. We don’t love drama for the sake of drama. But Brendan Fraser’s Rental Family isn’t that. In fact, it’s one of the most heartwarming movies we’ve ever watched. And, if you want to feel like the world is still a good place, despite well… everything, this is the movie for you.
But what is it about? The movie’s description reads: “Set in modern-day Tokyo, RENTAL FAMILY follows an American actor (Brendan Fraser) who struggles to find purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese “rental family” agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers.”
And sure, that gives you something, but it still feels like it doesn’t even come close to all the things you’ll be feeling. And you don’t have to take it from us, the cast agrees!
What did the cast have to say about it? Well…
Rental Family was directed Hikari and stars Brendan Fraser, Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto, and Shannon Gorman. The film is now available to stream on Hulu, so go watch it and come cry with us.
