The debut of Young Sherlock, Prime Video’s series based on the books of the same name by Andrew Lane, has finally arrived. We know fans of the series about the fictional British detective will be a popular one. It’s a new show about a well-known and beloved character. The series, directed by Guy Ritchie, is set to bring us the same characters we know and love, like Sherlock’s brother Mycroft Holmes, played by Max Irons. And then there are new ones like Princess Gulun Shou’an, played by Zine Tseng.

That’s the beauty of an origin story. You can play around with characters. While speaking with Irons and Tseng in our exclusive interview, we could tell they both had a lot of fun with their characters. And that this project grabbed them right away when they signed on.
One of the things we found enjoyable about Young Sherlock was getting the opportunity to see more of Mycroft and Sherlock’s dynamic growing up. In our exclusive interview, we spoke to Irons about the fact that Mycroft acts like a fixer in some ways and really lives up to the big brother role.
He had this to say: “Sherlock’s a genius. And he has a unique perception of the world and points of view. Like many gifted people, like many people with neurodiversity, there are points in their lives where they need a little help. And Mycroft, with Sherlock’s parents being away, understands that Sherlock is a special person and must be protected.”

It’s important to look out for your family, especially siblings. And especially younger siblings. As Irons said, Sherlock has a unique perception of the world. And sometimes that gets him into a little trouble. He can be very impulsive, and as we see in Young Sherlock, he gets himself into a lot of skirmishes.
In fact, a lot of the characters do. We nearly ran out of time in our interview but had just enough time to ask Tseng about some of the action sequences and whether she did the stunt work or had her own stunt person. Her performance was so impressive. She became a favorite character for us while watching the series.
