One thing that I appreciate about When Calls The Heart is its genuine innocence. The show has so much heart and there are so many things that are intense to the people of Hope Valley that I may not get. Why? Because in today’s world it’s so different but maybe the whole reason that I love the show – it is an escape. Sometimes the intensity is about a fire and sometimes it is about finding a ring size.
And like many fans, I have been waiting for Nathan and Elizabeth to get engaged. Did they do this episode? No. But Nathan has now begun going down the road to get us there. He’s decided that he needs to buy a ring, but there is one problem. He doesn’t know her ring size.
In addition to the operation find ring size, don’t think that the entire episode was about that and we’ve forgotten the fire. That’s not happening. Someone needs to pay for that.
This episode of When Calls The Heart was enjoyable because of so many reasons. But one of my favorite things about it was it explored so many relationships in Hope Valley. It was both new chapters of relationships and appreciating the past of some. All of this can sound like a lot, but the greatness of When Calls The Heart is that no matter how intense it seems, the writing is so great that everything going on flows.
And what you’re left with is a television show that leaves an impression on your heart.
CHARLOTTE
I can’t even begin to imagine what it is like to be Charlotte and be in Hope Valley. Her being with Jack and Elizabeth – it has to be hard even though she loves them with all her heart. They have to be a reminder of her son.
But maybe that is what she needs. She needs the reminder that her son still lives in his son. She needs the reminder that even though he is gone, he is in her heart.
But one of the most heartbreaking moments is when Jack did a school project and he drew Charlotte. He said she’s a survivor because she doesn’t need anyone. Though she tried to hide that it hurt her, the reality was that you could see it in her eyes. Everyone needs someone.
Charlotte stayed longer than expected in Hope Valley and I don’t think that it was for bad reasons. I think she needed the human connection and reminders of her son. She was able to find that connection with Elizbeth and Jack.
She also needed to do something that she had never done before – visit her sons grave. She hadn’t done that as of yet. Now, would I have liked visiting the grave to be with Elizabeth and Jack, yes. In the same breathe I don’t think she could have said what she needed to with them there. I did love that she went with Nathan and he was there to be her support also.
OPERATION RING
If you are like me, you have rings that you wear everyday. They are all different sizes, as fingers are all different. No shocker there. Nathan didn’t realize that he was going to have to know a ring size, but enlists Allie’s help to get it.
The two can’t seem to get Elizabeth’s ring size, because she never takes off her ring.
Now with all of this going on, Aliie sees Mei trying to teach Mike how to make a bowl from clay. Mei is excited to work with her husband on something that means a lot to her. I LOVE how Mike is so into learning about clay, because he knows that it means a lot to her.
Part of what is so special about Meil and Mike is that they love each other so deeply and put their relationship first.
I love that these two love unconditionally.
Allie sees them working together and decides to ask Mei to host a lesson on how to make the bowls. Her idea is that Elizabeth will take off her ring and then she’ll be able to get the sizing.
Her logic makes sense and it does work.
Whatever happens with the proposal, I know that I am all in for these two finding their way. I want Nathan and Elizabeth to be together and embrace their love. I am just happy that they were able to get the ring size.
And Nathan was able to pick out the ring.
Elizabeth and Nathan’s story reminds all of us that this is not a one time thing. You can have had love and felt it deep – and then that love goes away. However, you can find that type of can’t eat, can’t sleep love again. You just have to give yourself time and allow yourself to let your heart open. Nathan and Elizbeth did just that and found peace and solitude within themselves which allowed them to let love in again. They give me hope.
PERMISSION
Nathan may be one of the most special and caring characters that I have ever seen. The people that he loves, he loves deeply. He’s committed to his community, his people and his family. Nathan needed to ask two people for their blessing to ask Elizabeth to marry him. Charlotte and Jack.
As Charlotte hasn’t visited her son’s grave, I was moved that she was able to go with Nathan. She of course gave her blessing to Nathan, and it was incredibly moving. But the two of them going to the cemetery was one thing that was incredibly moving. Charlotte needed to be able to have some peace and really find that solace that she couldn’t find before this trip.
She’s an important part of Elizabeth’s family, but also they are an important part of hers. This trip has changed her and I absolutely loved that for her.
She does need connection. Just took this moment for her to be reintroduced to the feelings of letting people in and knowing she is loved.
THE FIRE
The town needs the insurance company to pay out. That fire was the fault of Pioneer Electric and of course National Insurance doesn’t want to pay. I would be shocked if dealing with an insurance company was ever easy. That wouldn’t even be reality.
Rosemary being able to get involved and trap the insurance company (even though they may not know), was fun because her being able to use her acting skills was great.
When Calls The Heart continues to show over and over again why it is special and why it matters. It is about the community and legacy.
It reminds us to embrace the simple things in life. We appreciate that.
