Though it did intrigue us when it was announced that Taye Diggs was going to be starring in a vertical. We had known that it would be a matter of time until celebrities got involved in the vertical space, but we truly had no idea that it would be him.
We watched him starring in the series Off Limits & All Mine for the CandyJar platform. It wasn’t bad, but wasn’t great.
The series official tagline describes the movie as, “a widower who takes in his best friend’s rebellious daughter and realizes that a dangerous and transformative connection is about to unfold.” An age gap romance it is.
The actor has now launched Microhouse Films, a mobile-first vertical storytelling platform which is set to launch this spring. The company will, “enable creators to produce, distribute and monetize their work within a single platform.”
In his statement Diggs said, “When we thought about how to meaningfully impact the vertical space, we immediately focused on the creators and storytellers whose livelihoods depend on where this industry is headed. Microhouse Films is about creating a model that supports them in this next phase and allows them to keep telling stories that move us.”
His partners, Autumn Federici, Shelby Stone, James Black, and Troy Brookins added, “The industry is rapidly changing, and we have an opportunity to redefine who benefits in this new ecosystem that puts control directly in the hands of filmmakers. We’re excited to introduce a model for vertical storytelling with Microhouse Films that places a premium on both the quality of the work and the storyteller behind the content.”
We think that it is an ambitious project, but we’re definitely going to be watching what happens next here. Vertical actors are some of the most talented out there and we’re definitely interested in the people behind the stories too.
What about you? What do you think about verticals? Love them? Hate them? Tell us all the things.
