Ok, Manifest fans, this is the kind of news we were absolutely not expecting to wake up to today! Netflix announced Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery, a new series set in the universe of Manifest. And yeah, the announcement came on 8/28, because Netflix knows exactly what day to choose when it wants us, Flight 828 fans, to pay attention. If you want to know all the details, keep reading!
What is Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery About?
Netflix is keeping some of the mystery close to the chest for now, but we do have the official premise.
The story begins when a mysterious plane crash-lands in Denver. That’s strange enough, but things get much stranger when the passengers emerge without any memory of who they are, where they came from, or even why they’re there.
A young social worker and a novice Homeland Security agent end up joining forces with these new arrivals. Their goal? To stop a catastrophe that could end humanity. Of course, because this is Manifest, nothing is going to be quite that simple.
As they try to figure out what happened to the passengers and prevent the looming disaster, they discover that they’re all connected to the very mystery they’re trying to solve. So yes, we’re once again looking at a story where the questions are probably going to multiply much faster than the answers.
And that’s exactly what makes this new series so intriguing. Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery is being presented as a fresh entry point with its own characters and storylines, meaning newcomers should be able to jump in without needing to know every single detail about Manifest. But for longtime fans, the familiar creative DNA should make this feel like it belongs in the same universe.
Netflix Head of Scripted Series, US & Canada, Jinny Howe, also addressed the decision to expand the franchise:
“We are thrilled to expand the Manifest universe with Arrivals, led by the original creative team of Jeff Rake, Margaret Easley, and Laura Putney. Their return ensures the creative continuity essential to this franchise, allowing us to honor what made the original a phenomenon while introducing a fresh perspective for fans worldwide.”
And that last part feels particularly important. Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery isn’t being positioned as a way to simply recreate the original show. The goal seems to be taking what worked about Manifest and using it to tell a completely different story. And we love that!
The Original Manifest Team is Back
While Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery is connected to the world we already know, this isn’t simply a continuation of the original story. We’re getting a completely new cast, new characters, and a mystery that will take us somewhere we’ve never been before. At the same time, there’s a very important connection to the original series: the creative team behind Manifest is coming back!
Jeff Rake, the original creator and showrunner, is returning, this time alongside former co-executive producers Margaret Easley and Laura Putney. Easley and Putney are now stepping into the roles of co-creators and co-showrunners, giving Arrivals a pretty significant connection to its predecessor from the very beginning.
And honestly? If we’re going to expand the Manifest universe, having the people who helped build it in the first place sounds like a pretty good place to start.
The executive producing team will also include Robert Zemeckis, Len Goldstein of Tall Baby Productions, alongside Jacqueline Levine.
So while we’re getting a new story and a new group of characters, there’s definitely no shortage of familiar creative connections behind the scenes. And that makes sense when we remember just how much of a journey Manifest has already been.
The original series first captivated viewers across three seasons on NBC before Netflix stepped in and delivered its fourth and final season. Since the first half of 2023, all four seasons have accumulated more than 130 million views. Manifest Season 4 also spent nine weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 English TV list and reached No. 1 in more than 90 countries tracked.
In other words, this isn’t a universe Netflix is expanding without knowing whether anyone is still interested. Jeff Rake knows that better than anyone, and his statement about Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery makes it clear that this next chapter is something he genuinely didn’t expect when he first came up with the original idea:

What started as a wild concept became something much bigger – a story that connected with millions of people around the globe. We don’t have a release date or casting announcements yet, so there’s still plenty we don’t know about Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery. But we do know that the Manifest story may have reached its ending, but apparently the universe isn’t done with us yet. And we’re happy for that!
