Ready?
Here we go!
Beau Makes a Desperate Move to Keep Josh

In Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 19 ‘The Hero’s Journey,’ we once again witnessed Oliver’s fierce fight for his patients, even though it puts him at odds with Beau and Josh. Beau thinks what Oliver wants to do is crazy—and frankly, he’s right—but what he can’t stand is that Oliver has Josh’s support simply because of who he is.
Josh didn’t agree with Oliver’s idea, but he loves the man, and when Oliver asks him like that, with such certainty, such passion in his arguments… the lines blur. This isn’t Oliver’s fault, nor Josh’s for that matter. It’s just human nature. Oliver isn’t like everyone else, and Josh finds it very difficult to deny him anything, no matter how risky. There’s nothing Josh wouldn’t do for Oliver.
Would Josh have made the same decision if someone else had asked him? The question Beau poses in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 19 ‘The Hero’s Journey,’ is quite fair, and we certainly think the answer is no. And Beau knows it. That’s why he’s consumed by jealousy.
Beau already knew Josh still had feelings for Oliver, but seeing them together now, seeing the way Josh looks at him… Beau is certain he’s about to lose him. And, as they say, desperate times call for desperate measures. And that’s where the marriage proposal we see in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 19 ‘The Hero’s Journey,’ comes from. It doesn’t stem from love or the desire to share a life together. It stems from desperation and fear.
So Beau’s proposal isn’t made for the right reasons. He’s grasping at straws to avoid accepting that he’s already lost Josh. And we can only hope that Josh doesn’t succumb to fear of taking the plunge with Oliver and reject Beau—he doesn’t love him.

Dana Faces a Truth She Can’t Ignore

Josh and Beau aren’t the only ones hanging by a thread in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 19 ‘The Hero’s Journey.’ Dana worked incredibly hard to expose Amelia, and that made her forget everything else, including Katie. Katie wants to take their relationship to the next level by introducing Dana to her family, but it’s clear that neither their relationship nor Katie is a priority for Dana.
Where does that leave them? Katie can understand that Dana isn’t ready to live with her, but she’s realizing that Dana doesn’t see her in her future… and that she doesn’t love her either. And Katie is right about that. They’ve been together for a year, and if Dana doesn’t feel the same way about Katie as Katie does about her, it means they’re not on the same page, and there’s no point in them staying together.
So, in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 19 ‘The Hero’s Journey,’ Dana feels frustrated, angry at herself, and guilty for not feeling for Katie what she’s supposed to feel. But it’s not her fault, it’s just the way it is. You can’t control your heart. That said, Dana has the right to take that night to lick her wounds… what we didn’t expect was that she’d do it with Sofia of all people.
The same Sofia we thought was just a figment of Oliver’s imagination. To say that Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 19 ‘The Hero’s Journey,’ surprised us would be an understatement. We didn’t expect Sofia to actually exist and be Oliver’s sister. WTF?! Now we understand much better what triggered Oliver’s crisis, and we’re glad he confessed to Carol.
But then, was Sofia never just a hallucination of Oliver’s? Was the Sofia we knew a hallucination, and is Dana the only one who knew the real one? This episode left us with so many questions! We need to know what happens next because we don’t know what to think, although we’re leaning towards the first option.

Other Thoughts From Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 19

- We liked that Charlie and Ericka got a little closer. Charlie acted like a jerk for too long, and it’s understandable that Ericka is suspicious, but he’s trying, and it shows.
- Will Ericka finally contact her biological mother?
- Carol and Dana taking Amanda down together!
- I hope Amelia suffers the consequences for what she did.
- The way Carol speaks so proudly of Dana…
- We’re proud of her too!
- We love that Charlie now understands what Oliver is doing and goes along with it.
Brilliant Minds Season 2 airs on Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on NBC.
