We’re back! Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 18 ‘Through the Looking Glass,’ brings Oliver back to the hospital, and everyone must adjust to his return and the changes that have occurred in his absence—including him—while he and Josh can no longer deny their feelings for each other. Ready?
Here we go!
Oliver and Josh Are Closer Than Ever

In Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 18 ‘Through the Looking Glass,’ Oliver and Josh are getting closer, though neither is rushing things, which is the best course of action. Oliver is determined to win Josh back, but he knows he ruined what they had and needs to show Josh with actions—not words—that he understands the damage he caused and has learned from it.
Meanwhile, Josh loves Oliver; everyone can see it. But Josh is still too afraid to take a leap of faith and have his heart broken again. If that happens, he’s not sure he can recover. Besides, being with Oliver doesn’t just mean risking his heart.
Josh knows exactly what he wants in his future: a long-term commitment, a home, a baby…in short, a family. But Josh knows that Oliver will most likely never want the same things, especially when it comes to a baby. Oliver was never one for children, and Josh knows it.
So, as he sees it, he has to decide if the love he feels for Oliver is enough to sacrifice a part of his dream future—and if it’s fair for him to do so. That’s why seeing Oliver with that baby in his arms in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 18 ‘Through the Looking Glass,’ shattered Josh’s world.
The sacrifice he would have to make to be with Oliver is one of the reasons Josh keeps telling himself to hold back and not kiss him. So, when he sees him with that baby, and the family Josh so desperately wants also becomes a possibility with Oliver, it’s too much for him. Nothing is stopping him from being with Oliver anymore except his own fear.
But that fear is still too big, so in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 18 ‘Through the Looking Glass,’ Josh chooses to play it safe and convince himself that he doesn’t yet know exactly how he feels about Oliver, when nothing could be further from the truth.

Charlie and Ericka Finally Switch Roles

On another note, Charlie is still around in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 18 ‘Through the Looking Glass’! And, while we love it, the show should have properly explained why Charlie is still at the hospital after Josh proposed his dismissal to the Board of Directors and Muriel offered him another position. After that, we saw Oliver disagree with Charlie’s dismissal, but nothing more.
It’s like we’re missing a piece of the puzzle. The series didn’t even show Oliver talking to Muriel or Josh about Charlie, fighting to keep him on. So how did we go from him being fired to him staying? And we know that Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 18 ‘Through the Looking Glass,’ tries to make us believe that everything is resolved because Charlie has a better attitude, but we’re not buying it.
What happened went too far for the show not to explain how it was resolved.
However, Charlie still working at the hospital in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 18 ‘Through the Looking Glass,’ gave us the opportunity to see him working with Ericka after their confrontation last week. And it was quite interesting. It seemed as if their roles had been reversed, and in a way, they were.
For Charlie, working with Oliver was always a means to an end. He didn’t expect to actually like it, much less find a team he felt comfortable with. Because of this, he always let his ego and a touch of arrogance get the better of him, preferring to do things alone and his way, trying not to consult Oliver about anything.
Ericka, on the other hand, always relied on Oliver—as she should. But while Oliver was away, she had to find a way to do things without his help, and her high standards came into play.
Now that Oliver is back in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 18 ‘Through the Looking Glass,’ it was hard for Ericka to let go of that pressure to always be the one who finds the answer and never fails. That’s why we loved that Oliver supported her through this and helped her see that she’s not perfect, and that’s okay.
Charlie took the opposite approach in this episode. Used to only listening to himself, everything that happened taught him to work as part of a team and to understand that Oliver is the kind of doctor who always manages to find what his patient needs, no matter how complicated it may be. This is character growth, and we love it!
