We’ve been hitting that follow button a lot more these days as some of our favorite adaptations get casting announcements. One that we’re very excited for is the casting for This Summer Will Be Different.
Netflix announced on Thursday, July 16th, that Sophie Nélisse who starred in Heated Rivalry and Yellowjackets has been cast in the adaptation of the Carley Fortune novel as Lucy. Today we get the announcement of Bridget and Felix’s casting.
The main cast has been rounded out with the casting of Francesca Reale as Bridget (Stranger Things) and Roby Attal as Felix (Sex Lives of College Girls).
This Summer Will Be Different will consist of 10 episodes on Netflix. The logline for the series, “based on the beloved novel by Carley Fortune, is a simmering, sun-soaked romance set across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island about Lucy, a young woman navigating her 20s and her first real love with her best friend’s brother, the one person she was never supposed to fall for.”
THE CHARACTERS
Reale will play Bridget, Lucy’s best friend and the tiny-but-mighty PR powerhouse book fans already know and love. While we don’t have an official character description yet, readers know Bridget is the one who first brings Lucy to the magic of Prince Edward Island — and accidentally sets the stage for years of memories, complicated feelings, and, of course, Felix.
When Bridget’s wedding crisis forces Lucy back to PEI, she has no choice but to face the one person she’s spent years trying to avoid. But that’s what best friends do: they show up, even when it means walking straight back into the emotional chaos you’ve been running from.
Attal will play Felix “Wolf” Clark, the charming oyster-shucking flirt who instantly catches Lucy’s attention. In the novel, their chemistry is undeniable from the moment they meet — which makes things a little messy when Lucy discovers that Felix is the Wolf her best friend Bridget warned her not to fall for.
Because, naturally, the one person Lucy has the most undeniable spark with just happens to be completely off-limits. And we all know how well that usually goes in a romance.
PRODUCERS
Dane Clark (Suze, One More Time) and Linsey Stewart (Workin’ Moms, North of North) serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. It has sold more than four million copies and has been translated into thirty languages.
In addition to Clark and Stewart, other executive producers will be Carley Fortune, Jennifer Kawaja (Sort Of, Wayward) and Elise Cousineau (Cardinal, Small Achievable Goals), and Samantha Levine for Sphere Media.
