The explosive cliffhanger at the end of the first season of Sheriff Country left us wanting more as soon as it finished. So, after months of waiting for news of production or cast additions, we finally have something to hold onto. If you were a fan of Gotham like we were, you might want to sit down for this. Because we’re getting a cast reunion between characters Jim Gordon and Leslie Thompkins, aka one of our favorite co-stars turned real-life spouses, Morena Baccarin and Ben McKenzie.
Ben McKenzie (Gotham and The O.C) will be joining Season 2 of Sheriff Country as a guest star. He’ll play Sheriff Wade, a neighboring sheriff who gets called in to assist Mickey in the Season 2 premiere. We don’t know how many times we’ll see him, but he’ll have secrets to hide. So, to say we’re excited for the drama would be an understatement because we can’t wait to see them share the screen again. Truthfully, Mickey is going to need some help running things while emotionally distant. So, what could Sheriff Wade bring to the show if he’s only here for a short time? We have some ideas.

Mickey Could Benefit From Having Someone New to Rely On

Honestly, we hope Ben McKenzie’s Sheriff Wade will be good for Sheriff Mickey Fox. At least in the beginning. At the end of Season 1, Mickey’s father, Wes, was arrested for committing federal theft and fraud. Then, her daughter Skye was the target of an assassination attempt. And her boyfriend was revealed to be the hitman who was hired by her sister-in-law. Not to mention, her mother was confirmed to be alive after years of thinking she wasn’t.
Obviously, Mickey has been through a lot, and we think Sheriff Wade could help Mickey feel normal during these troubling times. She could feel safe to rant about her life because Wade is someone new. That’s not to say we wouldn’t want Boone, Cassidy, or Hank to support Mickey. Because we certainly want to see her confide in friends. It’s just that Wade will understand the burden of having to be Sheriff even when struggling. We think having someone who understands sacrifice and doesn’t know Mickey as a woman who’s hurting will help her in starting to navigate fresh emotions.
Lastly, we can’t help but to think about the possible love triangle that can brew here. Mickey and Boone (Matt Lauria) currently have our attention as a will-they-won’t-they romance. As of right now, Boone thinks their opportunity has passed because Mickey turned his advances down. Which certainly makes Mickey holding his hand and staring at him while he slept in the finale interesting. Could meeting someone new conflict with the feelings she’s fighting for Boone? Could Wade be safer to fall for than Boone? We don’t know yet. However, we do know that Baccarin and McKenzie have great chemistry together. So, could we see them shine here? We can’t wait to find out.
