Class is still in session at Hillman University! That’s right, we are heading back to school for Sophomore year. Netflix officially announced that the A Different World sequel series has been renewed for a second season.
The series, which premiered over a week ago, has been well received. It reached number one on the Netflix top ten. It has received rave reviews from fans of the original series. As well as new fans. Showrunner and executive producer Felicia Pride put a lot of heart into this reboot. That renewal is more than deserved.
“It’s so validating to be bolstered by our amazing audience. We are beyond excited to return to Hillman and continue to tell meaningful and heartfelt stories that resonate across generations.”
The legendary Debbie Allen, who directed and is also an executive producer, is sharing this wonderful news with all of us. “YAY! HALLELUJAH! The people and NETFLIX have spoken. A Different World brought something everybody needed: joy, romance, relevance, authenticity, and HEART! Thank you for getting us into the Top 10 worldwide! And now, gear up! We’re coming back at you with Season 2!!”

But just what can audiences expect in A Different World Season 2? Well, according to the logline, “After transformative summers, Deborah and her Hillman classmates return to campus for sophomore year with a “New Year, New Me” attitude, only to find themselves faced with past decisions, uncertain futures, new loves and friendships, and deeper questions of purpose… all while, of course, getting themselves into a whole lot of new mess.”
If you watched Season 1, you know there were plenty of cliffhangers. And not just with the new generation. There was also no shortage of drama for the OG characters like Deborah’s parents, Whitley and Dwayne. I know ya’ll saw that phone call he made to Denise. What was that all about? How awkward will it be for Deborah when she realizes she’s in a situationship with the son of her dad’s first college crush? Seriously, we’re already sitting here coming up with theories and wondering which original cast members they’ll be able to snag when season two does come.
There’s no news on a release date for A Different World Season 2, but you already know we’ll be right here ready to share it with you.
A Different World is streaming now on Netflix.
