Chicago Fire Season 15, Episode 5 ‘Three Hundred’ is indeed the 300th hour of this show, and the one where we say goodbye to a character who has been there from the beginning, Joe Cruz (Joe Miñoso). And farewells always bring with them a ton of emotions.
In many ways, Season 15 has felt like the show trying to establish a new normal, and new beginnings are always a little complicated. There are good bones here, and a foundation of characters and stories we’re still very much interested in. But that doesn’t mean change is easy, or that we want it. And saying goodbye to Joe, even if it comes in a less catastrophic way than saying goodbye to Otis or Shay, is still going to hurt.
But hopefully, the hour can be both a celebration of how far the show has come and the people, like Joe Cruz, that have helped the show get here, and a showcase of what the show can still be going forward. And if we shed a few tears for Cruz, well… that’s just the way it is.

Photos
There are a lot of photos of Cruz in this, his upcoming last episode. There are also some photos of Severide looking bamboozled, which I assume are after Cruz tells him he’s not coming back. I would probably look like that if I were in charge of 51 at this point, too. Only like 10 people actually work there these days!
Also, a good thing to note: Cruz is standing and just using a cane.

Synopsis
We don’t get much of a clue about how Cruz will ultimately be living in what the show has released for the hour. Sure, we know he’s still hurt and likely has some substantial recovery ahead, but if he’s getting better, why is he leaving? If we’re being honest, it might be less about his injuries and more about his family. Cruz and Chloe do have two boys, and now twins too. Can a father of four make the same decisions a father of two does?
Here is the synopsis:
Firehouse 51 responds to a complex hostage situation; Cruz continues to make strides; Chief Tomlin gives Severide an impossible task.
Promo
“We live or die together,” the promo tells us. And if there’s a shot of the entire firehouse, and another one of Stella and Kelly looking at each other, well… that’s just a good mix of what the show has been and what it will be going forward, apparently.
