Tributes Pour in for Alan Rickman

When you lose one of your icons, it’s hard to find the words. It’s hard to contain the emotions. It’s just …hard. And that’s us from the outside. The people who knew and loved Alan Rickman the best are now just reacting to the news of his passing, and if we thought the news was heartbreaking enough, then the reactions make this hit even harder.

First, there was J.K Rowling

Daniel Radcliffe.

Then, Emma Watson.

Jason Isaacs

Oliver Phelps

James Phelps

Selma Blair

Emma Thompson, who released the following statement:

Alan was my friend and so this is hard to write because I have just kissed him goodbye.
What I remember most in this moment of painful leave-taking is his humor, intelligence, wisdom and kindness. His capacity to fell you with a look or lift you with a word. The intransigence which made him the great artist he was—his ineffable and cynical wit, the clarity with which he saw most things, including me, and the fact that he never spared me the view. I learned a lot from him.
He was the finest of actors and directors. I couldn’t wait to see what he was going to do with his face next. I consider myself hugely privileged to have worked with him so many times and to have been directed by him.
He was the ultimate ally. In life, art and politics. I trusted him absolutely.
He was, above all things, a rare and unique human being and we shall not see his like again.”
Hugh Jackman

Matthew Lewis

And many, many others. Too many to fit on this page. Too many to even count. And we here at Fangirlish would like to take this moment to join the Harry Potter fans in saying goodbye to Alan Rickman, in the best way we know how. With our wands high.

Rest in peace, Alan Rickman. You really and truly will be missed.

  1. I cried in public today thanks to Daniel Radcliffe’s words. On one of the best trips to New York, I actually had the chance to see both Alan Rickman and Daniel Radcliffe on stage — in separate theaters but still wild. And when speaking to Rickman at the stage door, I can truly say he was one of the most gracious persons I had ever met. I admired him so much.

  3. I’ve been bawling non stop since I’ve heard the news. But whenever a cast member posts something, it’s like the wound reopens.

  4. Really sad to hear the news. Loved him as the villainous sheriff in Robin Hood (was hilarious actually) and a stalwart in Sense & Sensibility.
