We talked with Wynonna Earp creator Beau Smith and Tim Rozon, who plays Doc Holiday, at San Diego Comic Con about watching his comic come to life and playing an iconic character.
Rozon was familiar with his character from the start. “I knew exactly who Doc Holiday was. I knew from my generation.” He was drawn to Doc’s story, movies, comics, and felt like his dream had come true when he was cast as Holiday.
One of the things that drew Smith to Rozon was his chemistry with Melanie Scrofano, who plays Wynonna Earp. “My wife and I sat there watching and said, “Man, this is the guy.” We saw the chemistry between him and Melanie.”
This jump started Smith wanting to get Doc Holiday into the comic book as soon as possible! “My first thoughts (after the audition) were, ok we’re gonna start the comic book series in February. We need get Doc in there, first issue.”
Rozon is also a big comic book fan who regularly attends cons in Canada. So starring on a show based on a comic book, coming to San Diego Comic Con, and then sitting at that table with the creator, was a dream come true as well. “It’s the best feeling in the world!”
