While The Flash hasn’t exactly been our favorite DC Comics show on television this season, it certainly took a step in the right direction with a season finale that brought all of the emotion and teased a season 3B that’s sure to leave us emotionally compromised.
The CW has released a trailer for The Flash‘s midseason return (airing Jan. 24), which finds Barry grappling with the revelation that Iris is slated to die some five months in the future.
And obviously Barry isn’t going to sit back and not try to change things.
One of the criticisms I’ve held towards Barry’s characterization was how he messed with the past — to get what he wants — and affected others in the process. More than that, he didn’t learn his lesson. Which makes this latest revelation interesting because now it appears as if Barry is going to try and alter the future.
But the difference is that this future that he got a glimpse of isn’t what the future was supposed to. The future has changed. So now Barry and Team Flash are looking to change the future back to the future.
This is that significant consequence that Barry is going to struggle with this season. The other ones have been small by comparison. Now Barry’s going to have to face situation where his decision ultimately put someone he loves very much in danger.
This trailer finds Team Flash trying to change certain things that happen in the future in an effort to prevent Iris’ death, as well as teases the return of Killer Frost, a Flash/Kid Flash team-up, as well as Barry and Cisco taking a trip to the future.
While we’re freaking the hell out (don’t touch our baby Iris!), we know deep down that The Flash is not going to kill Iris West. But that doesn’t mean we’re not going to be stressing the hell out in the meantime.
Watch the midseason trailer below and join us in freaking out and counting down to Jan. 24.
The Flash returns Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 8/7c on The CW.
