We have a very good feeling about this. And it’s not just because we’ve been waiting for an Obi-Wan Kenobi film since Episode III came out, no.
THR is reporting that Oscar-nominated filmmaker Stephen Daldry is in early talks regarding a film that would center on the fan-favorite Jedi Master, played by both Sir Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor.
Fans have been ansty for news of this sort for a while. It makes sense, after all, especially with all the origin stories the Star Wars franchise is giving us, to do one centering on Obi-Wan Kenobi, especially since there would be no need for a recast, Ewan McGregor is around and he’s said on numerous occasions that he’d be interested.
Because, hey, if you think we want an origin story without Ewan McGregor, you’ve got another thing coming.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone is one of several projects being developed by Lucasfilm outside of the main saga that tells the story of the Skywalker family. A Han Solo movie is set to wrap up shooting anytime now, and Lucasfilm has also been said to be looking at movies featuring Yoda and Bobba Fett, among others.
Nothing against those two, but if I have to choose just one, my vote’s Obi-Wan.
Pretty please, Star Wars. I’m asking nicely here.
