Rittenhouse’s plan is way more involved than we could have foreseen in Season 1. Can they be stopped? How? And is this one of those the end justifies the means thing when it comes to stopping them?
Lizzie: I mean, if they couldn’t be stopped we wouldn’t be here, watching the show and investing. There’s clearly an endgame where they are stopped, and it’s not one that looks as easy as the end of Season 1 did. Which is why the question of – what would you do to stop them – becomes so important. Is anything and everything on the table? What is the Time Team willing to do? My bet is they don’t even know the answer to that yet.
Alyssa: Right now, Rittenhouse seems unstoppable. Just when you think Rittenhouse is a small group of people, you learn that they have agents planted throughout history just waiting to be activated. There’s no telling how many of them there are. There’s no telling how far Rittenhouse’s reach is. There’s no telling what Lucy’s great grandfather means to Rittenhouse and their plan to rewrite history. There’s no telling how Rittenhouse plans to rewrite history. It’s terrifying, but it’s thrilling at the same time. This is the kind of big bad that is worthy of a show like this. Can they be stopped? Of course. But how? That’s something that the Time Team is going to attempt to figure out. Flynn already tried killing Rittenhouse in the crib. But if he killed Rittenhouse, does Lucy exist? There’s no telling what would happen if he’d have done that. But now it’s about trying to stop Rittenhouse in the here and now. Taking out the agents planted in time. Taking out the agents in the present. It’s not going to be a 10-episode battle. It’s going to take time. But if there’s anyone that can do it, it would be the Time Team.
Erin: Rittenhouse can’t be stopped, I don’t think. I think that if they are stopped, I think we’re going to loose one of the people we love. But I am afraid that would be Lucy – because as we’ve seen her great grandpappy is someone really important. But what the hell? Who is he? Like I feel like we need to protect Lucy at all costs and I don’t feel like that is happening here – except from Wyatt. But I think that Flynn may know more than he is letting on and he may be the person that can take down Rittenhouse.
But I’ll be honest – I am not sure of what is going to happen and anyone will ever be able to take down Rittenhouse.
Lyra: Rittenhouse isn’t going to be stopped for a very, very, very long time. Their reach is deeper than anyone knows and it’ll take our Time Team seasons to straighten this all out. Hint. Hint, NBC. GIVE TIMELESS ALL THE SEASONS! Rittenhouse needs to be stopped and this is the only way to do it!
Sarah: If they couldn’t be stopped, I’m not sure we’d have a show, so yes I know it’s possible, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy or without a lot of consequences. Their organization is clearly massive and so woven into history, taking them down will mean disrupting the past and affecting the present in ways the Time Team won’t always be able to predict. Rittenhouse’s ability to plant sleeper agents throughout the past is the definition of an genius evil plan, but if there’s one mistake they’ll keep making it’s underestimating Lucy, Rufus, and Wyatt. I’m more afraid of what the effects will be on them, and everyone else in the bunker depending on what they’ll have to do to stop Rittenhouse, but after everything that’s happened it’s hard to imagine they won’t give it everything they got to take them down.
Lariel: Well, after positing the idea I did in my answer about Jiya, that losing Rittenhouse might mean global destruction, my next question is whether Rittenhouse SHOULD be stopped? Or just changed?
Bex: Maybe by taking out enough of their original key members, maybe by destroying both the lifeboat and the mothership, maybe….
I feel like Lucy channelled her inner Flynn in the premiere: thinking people she loved were dead, and the quiet desperation diffusing through her that almost led to the sacrifice of her own life. If anyone can take down Rittenhouse, it’s the Time Team under Lucy’s leadership.
Kayla: Rittenhouse is definitely going to be a hard one to stop. How do they do it is the long run of the season – and the show it seems. GIVE US MORE NBC!! Obviously – they will figure it out. What are they willing to do to get there? Do you sacrifice someone’s life – or your own morals to get there? It may be just that – the end justifying the greater good to stop the plan Rittenhouse has.
Shadia: I’m actually glad the story with Rittenhouse is still continuing but it’s getting even more complicated than ever. They’re trying to rewrite history and I find it so intriguing! They are unstoppable and like 10 steps ahead of everyone right now, that’s for sure. I think they’re going to go through a lot of hardships to stop Rittenhouse, more traps and crazy twists to beat them.
Marta: We have to believe as an audience that Rittenhouse can’t be stopped, otherwise there’s no emotional investment in our characters succeeding. Flynn was a morally complex baddie, and a great one, but ultimately he didn’t feel as that much of a threat –our Time Team would’ve brought him down, eventually, and they actually kind of did. So we needed someone bigger, someone badder, someone with unimaginable power. We needed our Moriarty. Someone –something– that we would actually be terrified about and that would honestly feel as a threat to the characters. That’s exactly what Rittenhouse is. You can’t even begin to imagine where they begin and where they end, and that’s a very scary and claustrophobic thought. So I think, in the long run –maybe they’re a series arc, maybe just a couple of seasons arc– they will be defeated –probably by some kind of Darth Vaderis last-minute sacrifice courtesy of Lucy’s mother. But it will be a very, very, hard and long road till we get there, hopefully.
Luci: Well, I’m guessing that’s the goal, right? Stopping Rittenhouse eventually, so there must be a way. That doesn’t mean it will be all resolved and delivered wrapped up in a nice red bow by the end of this season. After all, I sure as hell hope Timeless will be renewed for many seasons to come. This will most likely be a cut one head off, another one pops up kind of thing, and I am 100% fine with that.
McKenzie: I can see a couple different things happening with Rittenhouse. Number one would be that they are able to stop Emma, Caro, and Nicholas from destroying to much of what they already have. Number two, we are going to have a break off and get two different sides of Rittenhouse, Emma vs. Carol, they are clearly wanting the same goal but Emma is much more ruthless in her pursuit and Carol doesn’t seem 100% sold in her ways. Number 3, would be that while they destroy this current version of Rittenhouse their will always be someone with the ideology waiting in the wings to take up residency. This organization is just to deeply rooted to get it all out without torching history in the way that Flynn was doing.
Emily: I suspect stopping Rittenhouse will be a long road. At least that’s what we are hoping for, right? For many seasons to come. Flynn was just really the set up to their journey of figuring who Rittenhouse is and then all the truth to uncover about them to stop them. Even though there was a switch to who they are now chasing, that was their [the writers] plan all along, I think. What was the question again? Can they be stopped? I hope so, but I hope not for a while, and that they can continue to fold in new interesting ways to further the storyline. How are they going to do it? I don’t know. That’s the beauty of being a viewer. You don’t have to decide that. I am generally pleased with how my TV shows play out.
