Garcia Flynn is back! Are you happy to see him? Can he be an asset or will he continue to be a thorn in the Time Team’s side? Do you like him?
Lizzie: Flynn was always the kind of villain you didn’t want to win but never really hated, so honestly, I’m glad to see him back. It feels like, at this point, the fight against Rittenhouse is one of those all hands of decks kinda fights, so hell yes, if Flynn can help, I’m all for bringing him in. That, of course, doesn’t mean I really trust him, but at this point he’s got as much incentive as the Time Team to take Rittenhouse out, so …why not?
Alyssa: As weird as it sounds, I am happy to see Flynn back. That doesn’t mean I trust him. That doesn’t mean that I don’t think he’s going to cause the Time Team any trouble along the way. But if Lucy, Wyatt, Rufus, and the team want to take down Rittenhouse, how do you do that without the man that seems to know the most about them? Flynn can certainly be an asset to the team in helping them take down the bigger enemy. But Flynn can certainly be a threat, as well. That’s just who he is. Especially considering he still believes, presumably, that Lucy turned him into the government.
Erin: I may have stood up and cheered like I was on an episode of Jersey Shore. Why? Because I think that he’s going to be more help than a hindrance and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
Lyra: I’ve always had a soft spot for Flynn because what happened to his family and the way that he reacted afterwards, is something that many of us would do. Pain changes us all and I understood him without excusing what he did. It’s going to be interesting seeing him working together with the Time Team and having to adjust the way he solves problems. It’s also going to be interesting watching the Time Team doing things a little bit more of his style to get the job done.
Sarah: I’m excited to see Flynn help these guys instead of running around being a pain in the rear smart ass. Flynn was more than your typical black and white villain last season, but it took a few episodes before I began to see the humanity underneath all his cold blooded actions. When he sat down in the church, and spoke honestly is when I couldn’t hide my soft spot for all the pain he’d been through. I don’t think he’ll be someone to trust personally, but they can certainly trust he’ll help them take down Rittenhouse. He’ll probably be a thorn in their side with his attitude, but he’ll still help fight the evil organization that murdered his family. In the process I’m hoping to like him more as an asset, instead of the villain.
Lariel: I love all the layers to Flynn, and I am happy to see him back. He’s one of those rare characters that you can hate and pity and even sometimes love – all in the space of a few minutes. He still knows things about Rittenhouse, if not as much as Emma does. I think the thorn in the side will be his methodology. I do wonder, though, how they’ll manage to take him along with the Lifeboat’s limitation of three passengers.
Bex: Both. Both is good. Flynn was the villain I grew to like, especially as more of his motives came to light. Now that the Time Team understands him more, he’’ll be an asset, but at the same time they’ll struggle to fully trust him. Flynn will be difficult to work with. He might go rogue. And can he really trust them in return? Since he feels like Lucy betrayed him.
I’m thrilled he’s back. I like his character more than Emma. He’s much more interesting to me. And if trust is something that can happen, I’ll be quietly wishing for a real friendship to grow between him and Lucy.
Kayla: There were times where I wished Flynn would go away. He was often more of a hindrance than a help in S1. As you get the reason behind his motives, it becomes clearer. I always say this though – does the end justify the means? Does killing important figures in history – in cold blood – justify what he wants as his endgame? And can he be redeemed enough to actually be helpful in their mission? Or will he over step things again?
I’ll have to see if he can be trusted by the time team for me to trust him. If they begin to – maybe I will as well. But – right now – the answer is no – I don’t trust Flynn. I was happy to see him at the end of the episode though. He may have more insight than we know.
Shadia: Flynn’s character is like a love-hate relationship at this point. He’s a wild, trouble-maker of a villain that’s for sure. However, he knows alot, I feel like he has a lot of information and he’s going to use that to his advantage.
Marta: I love Flynn! He was terrific as a villain –even though he wasn’t, actually, the villain– and I can’t wait for him to be an asset to the team and actually help them out. I still want the Time Team to be just Lucy, Rufus and Wyatt going on adventures —Time Team! Taking the time to be a team!– But I think Flynn helping them out and eventually getting his much deserved happy ending is something we all collectively need to see as fans.
Luci: Let me put it this way, I love Goran. I’ve been a fan since I first saw him in Practical Magic — which is my favorite childhood/teen movie — back in 1999 when I was 12. I loved him On Timeless when he was the pain in the ass enemy, and I am really interested to see how things are going to work out now that he’s firmly on Time Team’s side. Apparently. I hope so. And the shipper in me really wants to see how Wyatt reacts when he’s around Lucy.
McKenzie: I have a love hate relationship with Flynn. I think he will be a thorn in the side for Wyatt especially, so that will be interesting. He is most definitely an asset to the team, he knows more about Rittenhouse then any of our current #TimeTeam members. They just have to learn to trust him, which I think is going to be difficult for everyone besides Lucy.
Emily: I love when the enemy becomes the ally. I think that is the most glorious trope ever! And with Flynn, he was so well scripted last year with multiple layers of his villiany, that I know it will be fun to see him blend into the fold of the others and see how that works with helping them more now.
How does it feel to have this show back? Why is it one of your favorites? Imagine a world without Timeless Season 2. How does that world look?
Lizzie: I think a world without Timeless is, quite literally, my Bad Place. And the funny thing is, this show has been gone for a while and I’d sort of gone into this state of contentment where I remembered I loved it but I didn’t quite remember what it was like to actively love it, every week. And now that it’s back I can’t even imagine not having it for a third Season. I just need this show in my life, for many more seasons, many more episodes. So, it feels good. Really, really good. Like there’s hope for TV, hope for smart, diverse, fun shows. Like I, maybe, deserve to be in The Good Place.
Alyssa: There are no words to describe how amazing it feels to have Timeless back in my life. It’s such an incredible show that doesn’t get nearly the hype and credit it deserves. It has the ingredients of everything that I love about television: amazing writing, complex characters, thrilling storytelling, diversity, a beautiful family, and a ship that just makes my heart full. It really baffles me that NBC even contemplated yet alone nearly went through cancelling this show. There aren’t a lot of shows like Timeless out there. And the fact that Timeless is arguably the best show on network television, shame on NBC for even considering taking this beauty away from us. Keep that in mind when season 3 renewal comes up.
Erin: I don’t wanna imagine a world without Timeless and you can’t make me. So don’t even ask that question Lizzie.
Lyra: A world without Timeless is the bad place. I don’t like that world. I don’t want that world. And if NBC has learned anything it’s that we’ll fight for good writing and the renewal of this show.
Sarah: It feels like a gift that I’m so overwhelmed to be given I can’t stop marveling that it’s actually here. There is so much to love and enjoy about this show, and the three days we believed we’d never see these characters again is hard to think about. I’m crossing my fingers every day that we get more seasons, because there’s so much story to tell. The amount of life that’s put into this show is obvious from everything we see. Starting with the characters I would fight and die for, the history coming to life that makes my inner history nerd die of happiness every trip, the clever writing, a wonderful and well written OTP I’m happy to throw myself into the trash can for, and frankly even more.
A world without Timeless would be flat out horrible, period. I’m hoping I or any other Timeless fans have to live without this show for a good number of years. So let’s keep watching and get those ratings up, because this show deserves to be on the air to tell their story.
Lariel: I’m also a latecomer to the party. I missed Timeless when it was live last year. I saw all the Twitter buzz when it was canceled, and then renewed, and I had to learn more. So I went to the Timeless panel at SDCC (and I remember exchanging a lot of texts with Alyssa, who was in a different part of the room) – and the energy of that fandom just amazed me. I felt pulled in and I had to know more about this show. I didn’t actually get to see it until the DVD was released – but I devoured that DVD.
Timeless is, frankly, everything I wanted to see in Legends of Tomorrow – minus superpowers. Heroic quest? Check. Likable, relatable, diverse characters? Check. Historical accuracy – until someone screws it up? Check. Humor that’s funny without trying too hard and without making the heroes the butts of the joke (my biggest issue with the current iteration of Legends)? Check. Science fiction technobabble? Check. A ship I can BELIEVE in? Check.
It’s official – I’m obsessed.
Bex: I cried a lot between May 10th and 13th. I mean, yes, I was in the middle of a chemo cycle and already pretty damn emotional, but this show had been all I watched when my neutropenic self was stuck inside and it brought me joy during a difficult time. I think my heart broke on May 10th. Thankfully, NBC came to their senses, and my heart was made whole again three days later.
I don’t see anthropologists (or historians) on TV often (outside of documentaries, of course), so that aspect of this show is what initially drew me to it – and then I stayed for the sci-fi, the heart, the writing, the actors, the bonds, the ship (lyatt, and the lifeboat).
I’m not going to imagine a world without season two. I’m also not going to imagine a world without season three – because we’re going to make that happen!
Kayla: As someone who just started watching this show – THANKS LIZZIE AND ALYSSA – I can’t talk about the cancellation and renewal stuff. However, with the end of S1 – I’m so glad it got renewed!!! That would’ve been a horrible way to end the show with the potential of so much left hanging!
My life has gotten better because of this show. In a world where there are many shows that suffer from bad or lazy writing – or bad casting of actors – or just bad acting – or God help us ALL THREE – there’s those shows we have to complain about in hopes that whoever is responsible will see it and fix their crap – and then there’s the other side of the scale. That’s Timeless. It sits in world of good writing, acting, a diverse cast, and actors who have a shining chemistry that is used. The history facts and the proper use of time travel. Please continue this quality and I will watch!
WE NEED SEASON 3!
Shadia: I love this show so much! I need it to be renewed! There is just so much story-telling to be told! So many arcs to explore and so much adventure! I realized that there are some parts of history that I’ve either forgotten or don’t even know so I like how Timeless refreshes it for me. I get excited when I watch this show. This show deserves a second season. It’s a like a breath of fresh air.
Marta: I happened to stumble upon it on Netflix one day, and decided to give it a try. Still one of the best decisions I’ve made. It’s such a refreshing thing to see on television nowadays, with a science fiction component that feels very realistic and very real, very human. And yet, there is so much magic in the reality of it all, that you can’t help but fall in love with it.
Don’t even get me started on how on-point it is about racism and feminism and classism. It’s so precious in its diversity, and never ashamed to call America out on its bullshit, and by God, what an honor it is to be able to see them do that with the grace and virtue that they do it.
You laugh, you cry, you’re nervous and scared and at the edge of your seat throughout the episodes. And you can’t help but root with an incessant passion for the characters, who are trying so hard to be the best versions of themselves that they can achieve –something I can certainly relate to.
I was devastated to learn that it had been cancelled, but thrilled that it had suddenly been renewed, and to be honest I almost lost track of it until they announced the return date. But boy, the feels hit me like a speeding train when I read when it was coming back. It is, for sure, the number one show I look forward to every week with a desperate necessity. It’s like a drug.
I haven’t been sucked into a show this much in a very long time. Seriously, if it doesn’t get renewed for a third –and even fourth and fifth and sixth– season like it rightfully deserves, I might just riot!
Luci: So good. So, so good. It had been while since I was last this invested on a TV show, but I just love everything about it. I love how balanced it is — it’s funny, it’s dramatic, there’s romance and friendship and conflict. And so much history! God, I’ve learned so much in the past season alone and I just absolutely love how well produced Timeless is. The costumes are fantastic and the balance they find between telling us about a historical figure, but still managing to keep the storyline moving forward and developing every single character… that is mindblowing to me.
I remember back at SDCC 2016 when Lizzie, Alyssa and Lyra had all already watched the pilot and were raving about this new time travel show. I was afraid to hope too much and be disappointed, but you know what? Timeless has more than surpassed my highest expectations. I can only hope that we will get another season — at the very least. Good TV is so hard to come by these days. And Timeless is quite possibly one of the best things that has graced our screens in the past decade.
McKenzie: I have been obsessed with this show from the beginning. I have watched all of S1 at least 4 different times now. S2 E1 was so good on Sunday night. I have no words. I haven’t screamed like that for a TV show other than Grimm and Game of Thrones. If S2 continues this way it is going to blow S1 out of the water, and I thought that would be hard to do.
I was sad and mad when NBC cancelled Timeless there are a lot of pilots every year that get the green light and shows that get picked back up but we weren’t one of them. I’m glad that NBC realized that they made a mistake, but I’m sad that it took the fans to make them realize that. Also, how does a fan army get a show renewed? Like, that is incredible itself. That just shows how passionate we are about this show. As long as we all continue to watch LIVE on Sunday nights, spread the word, and do our due diligence I don’t see how we won’t get a S3.
Emily: I’m a sucker for underrepresented TV shows. It’s just my thing. Do I watch things like This Is Us, and does it make me cry every time? Yes! But, I would not fight hard for that show like I would Timeless. Probably not. It broke my heart knowing in those three days of cancellation, that there were so many other shows on the air that had no substance, idiotic, shamelessly dramatic for dramas sake. The party line is that Timeless is a multilayered show that tells you stories of people in history you’ve probably never heard before, that will send you immediately to the search bar for more. That’s really important. Those stories matter to me. But, also, the characters that we get to ride along with each week are important too. If we hadn’t come back, I’d wonder every now and then, what would become of our Time team. It’s a gift to be able to watch the actors mold their characters, take them on the journey, and see how they grow. We need to continue to keep them around for a few more years.
